If a customer requests and receives a refund, and at the same time charges back via the bank it is possible for his transaction to be credited twice.
This is why you should never refund someone who is already in contact with their bank disputing the transaction. Sometimes, depending on the financial institutions involved you can retrieve the chargeback funds after proving you already issued a refund, assuming not much time has passed.
Sometimes chargeback transactions take time to show up in the system, so it is possible to refund a customer who has already charged back and you just don't know it yet.
