US Bank Account for Non US Residents?

I have one at Chase, works nice. Due to the Patriot Act, you have to go there in person now to apply for it.

Due to the Patriot Act, you have to go in person AND have a utility bill showing you live int he US and A... really sucks.

Another rant I have is if the bank accounts are so hard to get, why is it so easy to get across the border? Last week me and my gf were driving back from Seattle, and the guy didnt even look at our passports and waived us through...

anyways good luck, maybe you will get someone nicer than I, and they will set you up anyways ;) (I also just called for the info, and did not go into a bank personally) post your results.

If you bank through a US bank do you have to file a US tax return?

Many US banks offer international accounts. Give Chase a call and ask them about it. Another lesser known option is an ETrade account. It works as a full checking account and you can probably get one from Europe without a visit to the US.

Yeah, also can you get a credit card along with that etrade account.

I don't think its possible. I had to open one through family friend and it was pain in the ass.

You may be able to use a corporation to do that, but I dont know anyone who has pulled that off.

Used to live in the US and could not be bothered with the hassle of a bank account (it was like 5 DNA tests, sperm count et al) and refused to provide this data.

Depending what your want it for - why not open a US dollar account in any other country? You can have a dollar account in the EU or elsewhere - it's far easier and you can still have your card etc

All I had to do was drive across the border to my closest Chase branch and open the account. No problem at all. Before 9/11 you could do it by mail.

Etrade you can get a account without issues. But make sure those lazy asses are sending the visa debit platinum card.

Mine is on its way. If it ever will come. Waiting 10 days now.

Account Opening was done in 10 days. And easy.

Did not go to the USA.

To set up a USD bank account here in Canada all you do is go to your bank and ask the person behind the counter to set one up for you.

I've had one for 10 years now.
