The saddest part is that their may be other similar cases out there. When the first priest abuse cases came up, no one predicted that there would be thousands of more cases yet to be exposed.
However, calling attention to the issue, and letting victims know that it is okay to finally speak up, is what caused the floodgates to open, and the necessary punishment and reforms to be administered (although this process still continues).
Hopefully, this will serve as an example to others, that not only will such abuse not be tolerated, but that people in positions of authority have a duty to do all in their power to protect vulnerable young people whom are looking to them for guidance and support (and not the legal minimum, simply to protect their own asses).

This past Sunday, my local newspaper ran that photo with the headline "A Fallen Hero." I was so pissed that they would refer to a man charged with molesting 8 young boys a hero in any capacity that I fired off a letter to the editor, questioning why they would consider a pedophile a hero, and pointing out that most think of fallen heroes as those who die serving their country. Calling a predator a fallen hero because he was a good football catch is a slap in the face of those who truly fit that description. My letter got published. Today in the mail someone sent me a clipping of my published letter, with simply the word "Great" written at the top of it.
