Paterno has been a figurehead for Penn State for 40+ years. The students, alumni and local PSU fans think he is a football god and can do no wrong. They are already very vocal in their questioning of his firing. I don't see this turning out good on campus.
Read comments on articles about Paterno's firing. You can tell the local PA-ers with their blinders on. They think he did everything he could to protect the children by reporting the incident to his superiors.

joe turned it in when he found out.. the people in charge inside covered it up and now joe gets the blame... joe is getting screwed.. just shows you 46 years means nothing...joe is on the bottom of the ladder and thats where the @#$% lands...too bad. he was a great coach and i don't even like penn state...

Those are the only facts that we really know. All of the evidence will be presented in the court of law and he will be found either innocent or guilty of the charges.
