Design contest judging

Personally, I have not followed the whole saga and really don't care to. All I know is that the whole thing was rushed for some unknown reason. I was to be a judge, but was excluded. So Amp and the other participants want to annouce this:

Tomorrow at least 5 of the major site operators will be judging the competition. Ten sites will be judged, and none of the judges are familiar with the prior outcome. I will bow out of being a judge so one of our designers can enter a site.

We will announce the top five after the judging is final.

Also, I am throwing in a 17" LCD monitor for second place and a 100GB hard drive for 3rd place.

There's really no reason to start more shit. So many people have been showing bad form throughout this whole mess.

Makes no sense to me -- what's the criteria for judging...? I guess I missed the saga -- but if this is a design contest -- it seems that there should be some designers or artists judging the work.

We need a vote to judge the judges... and we should vote on how to do that also -- we need a vote on the judge selection process and a vote on the voting process also... that's the ONLY WAY to settle this fairly DAMNIT!

Congrats on your move. Congrats to all the desingers that did some killer work. I might not agree with the the top 3 now or the judges desicions but thats all just a matter of taste and seldom will 2 people agree anyway I hope his does settle this though

I do think he should enter a different design though, Mafia Porn is too branded and you automatically associate it with someone, even if it's not the designer.

No-one is withdrawing anything. If someone designed a site, it is eligible. If anyone tries to withdraw, I will not accept it. If they refuse the prize, I'm keeping it!

If you are satisfied that you won the contest fair and square, isn't this reward enough?

The prizes are nice but from what you have posted in the past I do not think that you need the prizes.

I am not saying that the fix was in on anything, but the appearance of this exists.

Just to remove the appearance of impropriety it would be a decent gesture on your part.

This of course is just from my view point. You certainly are entitled to a different viewpoint and making your own decision.

The only criteria should be: will it convert traffic into cash? There are sites that are ugly that work better than pretty ones.

Judges are always swayed by the prettiest sites, so it goes without saying that the best "designs" have the edge.

Not in a contest.... it cannot be both.

Theres No doubt the landscape painter was "Aw come on he drew a fucking circle, I painted a fucking landscape.... etc"

True, but Michaelangelo drew his circle in front of the judges and without error, one point in motion became a perfect circle without "erasing."

That shows ability. That is why he won, and there is No "BOTH" in competition. One must loose, in this case 20 or so ;)
