Fucking Klez Virus, can't find it.

I'm really puzzled with this virus. I don't show any signs of having the damn thing on my computer except for the fact that I'm sending out viruses to people, including myself, ha ha ha.

From what I read, it's supposed to give storage errors and cause anti-virus programs not to work. Well, everything is ok here in that sense, I just have the problem with my computer sending out emails, or perhaps it could be my mail server ??

I've tried EVERYTHING to find that sucker, using my Norton anti-virus, tools that are supposed to get rid of it, & a few manual attempts to find it, but I can't find it. I've spent LOTS of time, but haven't had any luck, so I wonder if I really don't have it, ha ha ha.

Do any of you have any simular problems ??

What makes you think you are sending out a virus to others and to yourself.

Post some of the E-mails with the headers.

http://www.symantec.com and run their online scan. It takes awhile but bugs can't hide from an off your system scanner where it might be able to spoof virus killers that are actually on your box.

A little slow but well worth the wait.

I'll have to wait for more emails to come in, so I can post some headers.

As far as why I think that I'm getting them. First off, I get returned emails that couldn't be sent with the virus attached, I also get auto-replies from people I have no idea who they are, auto email replies saying that I have sent an email with a virus, emails from people asking what's in the file that I sent them, I even send myself the file, ha ha ha.

The screwy thing is that I shut my computer down at night, but when I wake up, I'll see that I sent myself a virus at very early hours of the morning, while the computer was shut down, I guess that the virus could spoof the times on those though.

Gemini, thanks for the tip, I'll head over there to try their online scan and see if it works.

I believe this is the virus that spoofes the from address, so that both from and to field are retrieved from an infected system. This would cause you to receive mails "from yourself" when in fact it is another system that has sent them out.

I have received several virus infected emails from some of my domains, but these mail addresses aren't on my PC at all.

So no risk that it is your PC that's infected at all.

You aren't sending yourself the virus. You probably aren't even infected. Klez uses addresses from infected computer's address books and cache in the "From" field - so basically, anyone that's even been to your site recently that is infected could be sending out viruses and Kelz is making it look like it's you.

Don't worry about it. Your computer is clean.

                Huh??!?!

NEVER trust that you are clean when you can verify it 100000%.

It can and will come back and bite you right where you don't want it trust me.

How old are you anyhow?!? And if older... how much do you know about computers for crying out loud. Sheesh.

You're right, I should have said "probably clean."

He said he's scanned his computer with the latest (or so I assumed) virus definitions, which should catch Klez. If Norton says it's clean, as far as I'm concerned, it's clean. You'll never know with 100% accuracy, but this is about as close as you can get.

And yes, I was also assuming he's done an online scan.

I have no idea what my age has to do with anything.

We have been with Norton since 94 and its never gone wrong but you just never know. So if you still have a doubt do the online. Altho we did hang on to Fprot for quite awhile/ ;-)

Good to hear Slick. I have done the same thing but I hate that nagging in the back of my mind. Interferes with me typing since I'm down to the last few brain cells. lol

Sorry Ter... I get angry when I see someone just make an assumption when there is a way to be abSOlutely sure for free.
