more than 3000 people downloaded the movie from a bittorrent site within 24 hours. the guy who uploaded it got a nice visit from law enforcement. a raid on his house.

Pipe dream or not, at least they are attempting to do something about the problem... if they put enough people behind bars, it will deter others from pirating movies...

Well there may be a small difference between piracy of content and murder, rape, etc...

But if there is sufficient legal attention paid to torrent sites and other piracy then normally law abiding people would steer clear. Until the next way to pirate comes about...

Exactly. The punishment for murder is death or if they're luck, life in prison, yet people murder other people every day.

well i can say that there isnt a such thing as a piracy crime living here in romania, fuck my isp even offers an ftp login to download mainstream movies, they have like 400 on there, and on top of that the download speeds are reaching five megabytes per second as its all on their internal network.....craziness

And that is exactly the problem. There can never be "enough" attention paid to it. People have tried before, with the war on drugs, to pay "enough" attention so that some social ill may go away. They failed. There's a lesson in that.

The leson being that there are never enough resources available to spend on preventing something people in general want to do. It's really that simple. The reason murder is more or less contained is because people in general don't want to murder.

People in general want to do drugs and use content for free.
