    I stopped taking checks, YET the fraud continues!

    It's been around a month and a half since I stopped taking checks...Mainly to stop people who signed up with BS checks and then trading the password....

    So now, passwords are still being frequently traded by people with legit credit cards and the customers are giving me the same bullshit explanations that the check frauders did...

    It's not like I'm getting chargebacks after the password is blocked, I would assume that people are using either stolen cards or cards of their parents....

    Do people ignore their credit card statements so much that they don't even bother to check their charges? I even have a check signup that's recurred for 8 months and the password is always getting blocked from being abused....It's gotta be siphoning off some unwilling party's money...

      I doubt its legit people purchasing memberships and giving out the passwords, you probably have some bots hacking your password file.

          The only way to stop this is using some sort of members access script which keeps track of who is logging in...Do you use this method? If so you shouldn't have much problems?

              This is a pretty common problem....I will often block an ID with Pennywize expecting to get an email from the user but I never do.

              9 out of 10 times I find that the ID has a Hotmail or Yahoo email address associated with it.

                              I can say this from experience, THEY ARE DEFINATELY STOLEN CARDS.

                              You'd be shocked at how long some of these cards work.

                              If they last long, most likely these kids got their hands some companies credit card that uses it a lot, and does not check their report.

                                  I wonder... If they are password "traders", then some of them might be willing to pay for a membership if they get other memberships out of it. Buy one, get 10 free, right?

                                      Maybe the password trading websites are buying them? It's pretty cheap "content" for their sites, compared to what normal webmasters pay.

                                                                          If you ask real nice you can probably get a deal on it. That page/site hasn't been updated since like 1999... but the iprotect module kicks ass for password abuse.

                                                                          On the other hand, you might also want to make sure you get the latest version of your processors scripts. I pretty sure that CCbill & IBill both had some problems.. either with their scripts or their auth codes getting stolen or something.

                                                                          In fact, if you use CCbill or IBill with pw management, you should just ask them to issue you a new auth code & make sure the script is the latest version.

                                                                                      it's sites like www.thepasswordlist.com .. they get alot of traffic... my site went up on there and there was about 100 people trying to login per minute

                                                                                          I found it stops when you change username and password and email that to your customers. And it's a good move not to let them choose their own combination but have the script generate it.
