Anyone ever have a book published?

I'm seriously consider writing a book on marketing and web page strategy. Why? because I am CONSTANTLY on calls with clients and agencies talking about best practices for marketing (SEM/PPC, facebook) and "why wont my webpage convert???"

Point being, anyone, or do you know of anyone that had a book published? Ive heard of a few companies that will do it for cheap but I have no clue when it comes to getting the book out there besides word of mouth... which is why I would need a publicist.

Guessing that is probably costly, but this day and age, I'm sure there are a few that work on commission or revenue share.

I am also interested in this.

I recently started putting together my own book which I intend to have published. I haven't spent a whole lot of time looking at the options for once the project is completed though.

Self-publishing ebooks is probably the easiest and fastest (and cheapest) way to do it. BN.com and Amazon.com both have ways for people to do that.

Ive looked into this, but I want to have something tangible that I can offer to agencies and businesses when I met them

There's thousands of ebooks out there claiming the same thing already, others advertise their 'product' on youtube... I think you'd do better just sticking with the consultant thing.

Marketing books are about the toughest sell to make... newbs are sucked in by flare like "make millions with the internet overnight!!" and crap like that, but then you are selling lies-which i'm sure you are not looking to do. Then you have the seasoned salesmen wanting to learn more who will be skeptical from the beginning because most people in sales are usually aware when they are being sold. Who's left to market to?

I've published 3 books (not by myself, but as part of a team) and working on 2 right now.
I don't know how is it in US, but here you need to pay, nobody works on commission, it's your book and printing process is costly. Now, there are several ways to cut costs. Of course in my case I can do everything related to design and layout, but if you don't know it, just get someone (maybe a student) that knows about it.

If it's for presentations, be sure to use good paper, and if you need to save, ask for options on covers, you really don't need the super high gloss thick paper. As long as it looks decent, cheaper options will work as well, but be sure to have good paper quality inside.

Then you have the intellectual property part, registration, ISBN, taxes and such. Again, I don't know how is it in USA, but here the whole process amounts to around 7-10% of the cost and there are ways to save, but I'm sure you'll need someone who is more informed in the subject.

Finally, it's a good idea to have a professional corrector and proof reader, it may make a 100% difference, believe me

                don't make it too complex.

                - write it.

                - get someone to copy edit and format it for publication. get a cover made off fiverr.

                - self publish through http://www.lulu.com/. you can get both tangible and ebook formats set up with isbn etc.

                - sell through amazon, clickbank etc. refer your customers there.
