wordpress: thumbnail on index page linking to a post, without that thumbnail

Index page posts need to have a thumbnail pic.
When you click it, you go to the post.
But the post itself doesnt have the image.

how are you doing the thumbnail?

custom fields, featured image, etc.

just dont have the command/template tag on single.php

1. extra fields
2. with  tag
