the big problem is that most people believe any BS the media chooses to publish, weather it's true or not. I believe that if you did any research into many of the pit bull attacks that the media reports on you would find out that the dog in question is probably not a pit bull or the dog was prevoked in some way, or both, intentional or not the dog does not know the difference. Most dogs attack out of fear. 99% of the people that meet my pit bull don't know that he is a pit bull so if he attacked someone how could they tell with any sort of accuracy what type of dog he is? Regardless of the breed the owner should be held responsible if their dog attacks someone.
You are right pit bulls are not for everyone, but the same could be said for any large breed of dog, remember dogs are not fashion accessories
