AFF's new strategy on this stuff is never say anything, stay away from the boards, and don't post interactively (they only post contest threads, nothing else). At this point, Lars may have been forced to clean toilets at Zango because he sure ain't posting around here anymore.Comment

I'm really not sure how you would qualify any numbers though. We spent a lot of time figuring out how much traffic goes into the void of Zango-esque software and spyware, and our closest calculations show that upwards of 40% of all affiliate traffic is hijacked before it even gets to it's source, and not all of it from Zango. Hell I've even seen instances where Zango codes have been ripped off.. It's an all-out war to rip people off.

actually your not far off, only problem is, pizza hut doesnt send you anything, but when you order from their site using credit card, you are selling your info to about 5 shitty phone spam companies that week buying your info and soon you're phone will be ringing off the hook. go ahead and try it... i love waiting for them to call so i can fuck with em, most of the operators are comical and fight back these days... would make for a great website updated dailyI want to work for that company....
My best analogy of spware "adware" in the offline world would be a pizza hut sending you out a check in the mail for $2.95 on the back in fine print it says " we worked out a deal with the phone company, whenever you go to make a call looking to order a pizza we will provide you with some "alternatives", than when you go to order from Dominos, you dial their number and the call goes to Pizza hut and they say " can I take you order".
Exactly the same thing spyware/adware does, do you see this lasting for 1 second offline....Comment

personally I have been watching threads like this, but not as detailed as Will76 and others
Im not really sure what can be done... someone mentioned asking sponsors to take a legal stand against all the "Zangos", but I cant see it happening
It was hard enough to convince the sponsors to send an email to ICANN regarding .xxx - now this spyware situation would probbably require far more action from them.
Surely, even closing the spyware using affiliate accounts is a good step, but that doesnt change the situation (doesnt change the marketshare of those who steal the affiliate codes using spyware)
anyway, if 40% is anywhere close to the truth, then its terrible
it directly effects everyone to such an extent that something needs to be doneI don't use ICQ anymore.Comment
