I personally can't stand it but I tolerate it because it makes it easier for my lazy cunt traffic to share my compelling text and expertly curated selection of content.
My theory is that the #1 reason social media has grown to play the large role it currently does in both business and social networking is that the medium appeals to the basic(/pathetic) human desire of 'being popular'. If that's not the case, then why do the most successful websites/services publicly list the # of friends/followers for each user?
About 10 days ago I decided to test the theory and placed an image with the text 'Be Popular' right next to the Twitter symbol. Sure enough, I've seen a dramatic increase in the # of unsolicited mentions. Humans sure are funny little creatures. Anyway, here it is.
