isn't an affiliate rep supposed to know the product they are selling inside and out, not to mention give advice to affiliates to help them convert better?

how would someone that has never been in the adult industry handle that successfully and not get laughed out the door?

The title of this thread is one of the biggest things wrong with this business.

Not smart, experienced, hard-working person looking for an affiliate rep job.....but "cute girl that your webmasters will want to hit on" looking for a rep job.

Not a $100 bonus for every 100th sale sent to our sites in the month of August...but a $100 prize for every 100th post in our thread announcing something that nobody really cares about.

I'd have to agree with others in the thread - I could care fucking less about how cute your affiliate reps are - hey surprise! you'd think that would be the case, but how many solo girls know nothing about the way their site operates but still get lots of affiliates to promote them? its an industry of sex, and most webmasters don't even notice when they are being marketed to just like a surfer.

Its still funny though trying to watch programs hire board whores who don't even know what conversion means & then watching webmasters flock to send traffic so they can get a personal fansign with boobies in it!

The few times Ive been approached by industry "sales people".They have been very nice people but no one took the time to teach them sales 101.All they do is talk at me instead of asking questions about my business and then see how they maybe a match.
I learned this the hard way when I was a headhunter, I was talking to a CEO of a big casino doing my written pitch.The guy stopped me and started asking questions on what I knew about his business. I knew nothing being a noobie. So then he verbally whipped me: "how are you going to help my business when you know nothing about it? "
That is when I learned the power of questions, most dont know this and are order takers.

I am sorry but i have to disagree with you there. I work in both mainstream and adult but mainstream DEF came first. I think that knowing how to deal with people is more of a personality and intelligence thing and those are industry independent. Affiliate marketing is the same all around generally with some different terminology so if the skills and the desire are there, why not hire from mainstream?

I don't think it matters much about what they know, it's a matter of can they get things done and do they have follow-thru. Most webmasters that have any sort of traffic don't really need help from an affiliate program anyway. They just need someone to ask for creatives, change my check to epass this period then change back type stuff.

For new webmasters just starting I guess it would matter.

What makes a smart affiliate manager is relative to the webmasters they are working with. Its an excellent idea to have a hot, bubbly chick at the front of the business who gets attention & works with the newbies, to learn together ... if someone comes along with a question or request that is above her head, she passes it up the chain & this is how big businesses end up with premium account reps through to sales people.

If you go to a bank the person depositing $1 million gets a different rep to the one depositing $10. Yes the $10 guy can always turn into the $1 million guy but he simply isn't yet, so the resources he needs are just different - not more or less important, just different. The well presented bubbly person always meets you at the counter (well, maybe not at the bank!!)

I don't think its really possible anymore for 1 rep to manage an entire program and effectively service every webmaster from the newbie to the 200+ per day client. The industry has become too broad & I think the best programs these days have a number of reps who work together as a multi-skilled team (not the sales teams that cut each other off & work against each other!!).
