I am a dealer for high end industrial air purifiers and also have air particle counters that I sell to labs, doctors, dentists, and consumers who have a an IQ above room temperature. I can tell you firsthand that the average home has air that is at least 2x as dirty as the outside air. What is in your air that you and your kids are breathing?

        1. car exhaust from your garage and/or from the street
        2. cleaning products
        3. a myriad of toxic substances kicked up when you vacuum (all of us have Dupont stain protection in our bloodstreams) Isn't this a nice gift you are giving for your baby to start his/her life?
        4. smoke from fireplace, your neighbors fireplace
        5. every synthetic item in your home will shed particles and of course it enters your bloodstream
        6. Particles from other parts of the world including China. And of course the hot radiation particles from nuclear power plant releases (ooops not supposed to talk about that little factoid)

If your kid gets asthma it is almost certainly your own fucking fault for being complacent.

Typical particle count outside in an area without much pollution is about 200,000 per cubic foot. In Los Angles it is typically over 1,000,000. An LA freeway or busy road is about 2,000.000 to 3,000,000. People actually jog along busy roads thinking they are improving their health.

Every time you drive down a busy road or freeway you are breathing in elevated levels of particulate and that particulate is certainly not good for your health to say the least. People who spend long periods of time in bumper to bumper traffic on a daily basis might be better off sitting home smoking Marlboros.

The average drug/vaccine pushing whore doctor won't tell you these things because there is not way for them to make money. Just like there is no money to be made in telling you to stop cooking your food to death.

Also every year people spend hundreds of millions of dollars on completely bogus air purifiers. Almost none of the air purifiers do jack shit other than take out the large particles such as pollen. So if you are allergic to pollen then buy a cheap Honeywell at home depot and you are golden. If you are trying to actually purify your air then you need to buy a hight end system that filters out nano particles. It is the nano particles that stay suspended in the air indefinitely and enter every cell of your body. But of course Americans love buying infomercial garbage so I guess the way to make money is sell them garbage and focus on marketing instead.

Scientists and doctors have known about the true dangers of air pollution for several years and more recent studies by UCLA have shown that you are just as fucked if you live several blocks from a busy road but like I said, pharmaceutical companies have no way to profit from this so they don't pay their whore doctors to warn you.

What's the story on this, I just had my rugs done and the guy said he treated them as a "curtesy"

Well it was probably the new formula that is much safer. The older formula was taken off the market but older carpets and furniture still have it. I think it was taken off the market around 2001.

Nothing beats a trip to a nice little chateau in Bordeaux and sipping a glass of grapes! Just something about that soil that cannot be replicated anywhere else. I know you guys send us the second rate wine and keep the good stuff to yourselves

Do you have a recommendation for an at home/apartment air purifier that actually works and removes nano particles?

                    thanks

A cheap way to clean your indoor air is to buy little Vornado fans for every room in your house and keep the windows open. But that only works for people who live in ideal climates unless you don't mind extreme hot or cold.

I never tested the air there but living away from busy roads, airports, and shipping ports such as LBC is the best thing you can do. I forget the exact info in the recent studies but you should be living at least 1000 ft away from a busy road.

There is some controversy that in LA the city spent millions building up cheap and free housing along the 405, 101, and 10 freeways. Most of the households have multiple children so now those low income families are sucking in car and truck exhaust all fucking day long. Even triple pane windows does not help because the particles that are the most dangerous also can penetrate even the most minute cracks and crevices. You could have to live in a bubble to keep it out.

There have been studies in Germany several years ago and more recently UCLA has also been working on this. I am too lazy to dig them up. The UCLA results revealed that these clouds of very small particles stay suspended and form clouds that move a few miles in any direction. So if you are one of the joggers along San Vincente Blvd in Santa Monica and then hoofing up the Santa Monica steps you are sometimes (depending on time and day and wind) breathing much of the same particles as the poor guy who has a house a block from the 405/10 interchange.

What I find interesting is people living in Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades etc are the type that would never drink tap water like the people in lower income areas do but they are breathing the same exact dirty air as everyone else.

But yeah to answer your question directly I would say living away from pollution sources is much better then any air purifier. And since you are in SoCal you can just open your windows up at least once a day and blow it out with fans. Those small Vornados are great. I have one in every room and they keep the air so fresh I love it.

If only the part that says the EPA would be allowed to consider the economic impact of some of their more onerous regulations survives that seems to make sense. It should be a balance.

This is so true. There are certain spots in cities where you can smell the heavy load of exhaust and pollution in the air (or at least I can). Usually it's before bridges in heavy rush hour traffic. I think people that do the commute daily don't notice it 'cause they're used to it, but it's awful.
