All of the above did well...as did NNGalleries for awhile. I bought a few hundred bucks worth of ad space and make a few grand on a new site launch years ago. Cant complain with that.

I'm surprised you guys kept track to the point that you have a clear list.
Year by year, maybe 50 worth subbing to, and another 50 you subbed to because they might make a sale.

Everybody switched to paid accounts. Tommy was one of the late adopters, and his price was okay.
Everybody's traffic quality went down.
The switch to paid accounts started a new phase - it "solved" one set of problems, but it was the beginning of the end of the business model.
It's hard to say what it would have been like if there was a better, less destructive anti-cheater "technology" (it makes me groan to have to describe paid accounts as a technology) that we all adopted earlier.
Not that paid accounts were anti-cheater really - the tgp-owners started experiencing the beginning of the sales drought - and tried to make up their losses by charging submitters.

I've wondered if the big tgp owners hadn't switched to paid accounts - and charged too much for them - if they might not still be around and based on a mix of flash embeds, cips and pics. Not around as much of course - but more than they currently are.
They tried to cannibalize their submitter base - the source of the free content variation - when they shoudl have seen the meaning of the writing on the wall.
It is the nature of business cycles tho, that businesses cannibalize themselves before they collapse. Thats what we are doing as a nation too.Comment
