There are tons of different digital fingerprinting methods, but the basic idea is the same for all of them, and it's very simple - compare blocks of images together, for example pixel by pixel, to see if they match.
It's very CPU heavy, but it's basically bulletproof. To avoid detection by DFP you'll need to make your video unrecognizable for human eye too, or to compress it so badly that quality would be total crap.
Cropping, rewatermarking, resizing etc would not help to avoid detection too, if DFP is properly configured. It can also detect a video within a video.
