Near infinitesimal trial and error is not "luck," FYI.
Fact: There are more single-cell organisms that live in one handful of topsoil than there are humans that have every walked the Earth since the dawn of time.
Fact: As each of those reproduce, mutations occur naturally.
Fact: Some single-Cell organisms have a tendency to work together across generations - and collaborate in systems, eventually becoming one. (e.g. chloroplasts in plants were once single-cell organisms, as they have their own, independent DNA)
Nature rewards those best fit for their environment with survival.
Fast-forward a few million years.
Thats lots and lots and lots of opportunities to "get it right."
