    How to fight the torrents

    Here's what the industry needs:

    An independent institution that will prosecute both the torrent sites AND the individual downloaders.

    The music industry was quite successful with their move to sue the endusers directly.
    1) You create a public awareness that downloading torrents is illegal. That's a thing the the porn industry is missing at the moment. Both downloaders and webmasters seem to have no intuition at all about copyrights nowadays.
    2) Sueing the endusers will create this awareness. You can't get much money from the downloaders, but if you enforce the law on some of them (without exception), the result be more than worth it.

    To do this, the industry needs an institution that downloaders will learn to fear and that centrally deals with the legal requests of the copyright owners.
    I'm thinking about a non-profit organization, sponsored by the industry's leading companies.

          I think in most cases it's the industry's leading companies (as far as the adult industry) that is actually posting most of the content there.

              OK intellectual property seems to be an issue... but I have asked and such is not found within the law... for what I understand copyrights fall under intellectual property and there is no actual laws on this... Yea I understand how this sounds... I would like to speak to some legal eagles on this subject... but last I checked such seems to be true... It is common practice for those in the US to claim if a person makes a copy of something they are breaking the law... even if you own a copy of the same media... Some companies will try to sell you another copy of the same program, music etc...

              Here in Canada you are allowed by law to have 3 backups and much of the US content offered by the big companies would like that not to be...

              What is your comments on this issue ?

                  My comment is that you may be allowed to hold copies *for personal use*, but you are not allowed to redistribute them. Case solved.

                  As the owner of the copyrighted media, you will always win a lawsuit.

                  Of course people still download mp3s. But the music industry has created an awareness that downloading music is wrong.

                          The DMCA prohibits all copying if you break any copy protection, thereby eliminating fair use rights. Its far overreaching and has been abused many times by many different people.

                          Look at what the public thinks of the RIAA after they've sued so many people. People hate them. They've sued a dead man and a person without a computer. I always wonder how do you illegally download MP3's without a computer. Big business interests have attempted to make the crime of copying any files a crime punishable by 10 years in federal prison.
                          The Attorney general tried to allow prosecutors to sue someone for copying any file even though the copyright hadnt been registered and allowing the federal government to seize your computer along with other things possibly.

                          The RIAA made a big blunder with sueing people, I consider it one of the worst PR moves ever. The best thing to do is to make there be no need to pirate anything, Offer Free samples or Free whatever to reel them in to buy REASONABLY priced products.
