how long do affiliate 'cookies' last?

I am just wondering about the length of time an affiliate gets 'credit' for referring a customer. If my surfer clicks on a link to get sent with my affiliate id to a sponsors tour, for how long and through how many pages do I still get credit for a sale if he eventually joins?

If he bookmarks the site and comes back a week later and joins, is the cookie still there to credit me with the referral?

If he clicks on the link I have for the sponsor, watches their tour, turns off his computer, then goes back that night and types in the direct url of the sponsor and joins, is there a cookie there to credit me?

Depends on the sponsor. Try this: clear your cookies and then click your affiliate links. Then check your cookies. You should be able to check their expiration date.

also if the surfer clears out his history and cookies everyday as some do, then the expiry date means nothing.

If they do not then it depends on the sponsor :-)

            cool, thanks for good answers

I guess I should post a 'spam me with 30 day cookie sponsors that convert' thread

so what happens if today, a surfer clicks a link on my site to a sponsor, and then tomorrow the same surfer clicks somebody elses link to the same sponsor and then joins, does the first click aff id count for a sale, or the last click aff id? (I realize it would be very rare, I'm just curious)

I was going to make a new topic but this one was there and close enough:

Should I care about leaving my obviously porn domain name cookie on a surfers comp? If his wife's not into it then it's his responsibility to clean up after himself, or mine, or is this a nonissue?

In CC Bill you can set how long they last and what kind of cookies are recorded
