Don't most sex offenders molest their own daughters, nieces etc? I think a lot of these people do it to their own family and not so much against strangers. I don't know for sure though since I'm not an expert but from what I read they mostly do it to their own kids etc

I know of a few by association on those websites and lists that have nothing to do with kids, but deal with the morning after and define consentual. But when drugs or alcohol are involved, then it REALLY gets complicated.

As for sex offenders... I do not have children, so my response now would be much different then if I had.

That said, I've run a check on the website, and on this side of town (by zip) they are almost all over in this neighborhood. Most likely up at that trailer park, and apartment building a mile or so away where the shootings, drugs, and police are at all the time.

If they lived next door, my response would be the same as a lot of the others in this thread. I'd introduce myself. Explain I know about the website/sex offender shit. Explain he is not welcome on my property, and should I see him I will take the appropriate action. Then wish him a good day.

It's all a matter of opinion and culture - when it comes to the age difference of a 17-year-old girlfriend getting nailed by her 18-year-old boyfriend.


On the criminal side:

All child molesters - are sex offenders....

But not all sex offenders - are child molesters.

A distinction does need to be made there especially when the age difference is just like one or two years. So you nailed your Prom date... BOOM - for the rest of your life you've got a scarlet letter on you.

I know my buddy got labeled a sex offender because his girlfriend was 17 and he was 18. The girls dad was a prick and had him arrested for statutory rape and he was labeled a sex offender. So it totally has to depend on what the reason for being a sex offender before any action is taken.

I'm not all that supportive of the National Sex Offender Registry to begin with, as it's applied too liberally, imho.

Because we live in a pretty tight-knit neighborhood, I'd be sure my neighbors knew so as a group we could keep an eye on him and the neighborhood kids. Then I'd sit down with MY kids and ensure that they're aware that they need to be very wary of the neighbor and not go anywhere near his house or vehicle, and if he approaches them, walk to a "Friendly" house. If he makes any effort to touch or grab them, scream until another adult comes.

Until he did something he obviously shouldn't, I'd be cordial. If he DID do something he obviously shouldn't, all bets are off.

that case would clearly be different and I as a reasonable person would probably lean towards the defense of the guy changing in a culture he isn't used to yet.

Sadly you are correct bausch - and the conduct flows across all classes. It can be your lawyer, the trash collector, the local preacher, the server in McDonalds.

Tho I've been in this biz for decades, it's a topic that never came up often and kinda totally naive to this area until I got a fair all-round "education" by some law friends who work in this area - and other professionals since then. The impression was like a bullet in the brain - it's hard to forget what was outlined and the severe effects it can have on victims.

The flipside is that was seeing the worst (some cases can be *very* extreme) and this can have a tendency to bias - but, - it does happen in reality. There are babies in families who have been abused since (don't know the actual age for certain - it's impossible to establish) around six months. It's not uncommon for a child to be habitually abused over a number of years (eg from 4 to 10 etc) by, normally one parent, but in rarer instances by both. That stuff sure makes you wonder what levels the human species will drop to.

Also met a number of victims who are now adults - you can almost "smell" the problem in off-guarded moments. Generally they are normal folks, but often have a great lack of self-esteem/confidence - then the story unfolds... Many of these cases never reach a legal level - they are kept "secret". One lady was abused for many years by her father and never said a word to anyone because she knew her mother would be totally devastated - and the victim also had the idea it was "her fault" (another common perception).

To be honest - I feel very sorry for these victims. They are carrying baggage thru their adult life - and have no hestiation in aiding LE or any other party who has aims of protecting kids from abusers. It also makes you "sensitive" to certain niches in this industry - another story.

And sure, there will be both victims and abusers on GFY - GFY is just a microcosm of the larger scenario. These folks know....

Call the ambulance. Then the cops.

Tell cops he attempted to molest my daughter while I was briefly away taking a quick piss. I had to defend her.

Then go on GFY and publically blab my plan so it could be used against me in a court of law.

Then plead insanity.

I found out one of my neighbors at an old apt was a sex offender.. I just ignored him.

That kid is sitting in jail because he wouldn't take plea deal that would of made him a registered sex offender.

Yeah, that is one of the most sickening cases ever. As soon as I heard the last judge ruled him released, I knew the DA would appeal. For what reason? They SAY they're upholding the law, even though they've already said they don't think he deserved to be sentenced to ten years. I'd like to see them somehow held accountable. Something along the lines of serving whatever time he has had to sit in jail since the last ruling. Playing with people's lives like that just pisses me off.

I HATE it when people play the race card, but this is truly one of those cases imo.

You can't compare the crimes, but you can compare the stats. And the stats show very clearly that it is an obvious misconception that recidivism among sex offenders is very high.
