Personally I've found most of the sites who claim to do fantastically well, convert like it's 1999 and make a fortune. Don't seem so flush when talking to shooters.
Especially amateur style sites.
Read what Jim said, it's spot on.

I did something like this on a dorm room set for one client and it came out pretty good, especially considering how picky the guy is. But he was willing to meet my quote.
Pretty much figured out how to make that kind of content look authentic on the second try. First thing to do is dump the model's purse all over the bed & floor and make a mess of the room where we are shooting and put a bunch of posters on the wall to make it look authentic. Then let the talent shoot themselves.
As it is, the smallish amount of business I have done on the amateur level was mostly licensing non-exclusive softcore Ex-GF photos shot with a point and shoot camera and no lighting. And the only reason that was even worth it was because the content cost me almost nothing to shoot and gave me a reason to kick out of town models a few extra bucks for traveling and have a way to get my money back.
To shoot g/g or b/g amateur hardcore I'd still need a real budget almost like a high end scene though, otherwise it wouldn't be worth my own time to bother.

In reality producing real amateur content is easy. The reason most don't bother is as Jim points out, it's not worth our time to bother with it.
The excuses that "professionals can't shoot amateur is clap trap. I could of got couples to turn up at a casting, give the guy a camera and tell him to go shoot his GF. After showing them an example of what was required.
Approx cost.
$200 max for solo, $400 GG $500 BG for the model.
Treble the costs to cover my expense and add a profit. (I have to find new models, set up shoots, interview those who attend a casting to see whose suitable, throw out what's crap, buy equipment, possibility of equipment getting broken, transport, plus other expenses and my time.) Also while doing this for you, I could be shooting something else more profitable.
So $600 solo girl
$1200 GG
$1500 BG.
Order a lot and take anything that turns up and I can sharpen my pencil on the prices.
Do you think it's too much money?
Go tell your best affiliates they want too much money to send you sign ups.
