Producers don't bother producing much realistic looking amateur style content because it generally doesn't pay much. If it paid more I would be more inclined to bother getting a few young looking teen girls, put them in a house and let them shoot each other with a pocket still and video cam getting naked and playing around. I did something like this on a dorm room set for one client and it came out pretty good, especially considering how picky the guy is. But he was willing to meet my quote.

Pretty much figured out how to make that kind of content look authentic on the second try. First thing to do is dump the model's purse all over the bed & floor and make a mess of the room where we are shooting and put a bunch of posters on the wall to make it look authentic. Then let the talent shoot themselves.

As it is, the smallish amount of business I have done on the amateur level was mostly licensing non-exclusive softcore Ex-GF photos shot with a point and shoot camera and no lighting. And the only reason that was even worth it was because the content cost me almost nothing to shoot and gave me a reason to kick out of town models a few extra bucks for traveling and have a way to get my money back.

To shoot g/g or b/g amateur hardcore I'd still need a real budget almost like a high end scene though, otherwise it wouldn't be worth my own time to bother.
