AVI to FLV Video conversion help

Some advice is needed regarding converting avi files to flv for uploading to my mainstream website.

I need to get the best visual quality for my videos that will be displayed at around 450 x 357px which is close to youtube size. The videos will need to be of better quality than youtube and I can output the avi files at high resolution.

What is the best desktop software to do this. Open source would be great, but will look at reasonably priced software.

    Thanks.

Why not Go with Quicktime H264 like youtube is doing for the ipod/iPhone/apple tv???? The quality is far better, but your call:

Here is a free windows FLV encoder just in case:

i was going to recommend Fris' link.

Flash is far superior to H.264 for various reasons.

If you are encoding to flash find an encoder that doe On2.
Then make some tests with various bitrates at your desired framesize and you'll come to a quick solution.

I really like Sorenson Squeeze for all my encoding. (mpg, flash etc)
