Believe me - got no interest in what country you percieve as being "cooler". "Cool" never was the measure of any country.
That said, *all* countries have good/bad features and these are usually related more to their culture/people/government - not to the actual country.
Both France and the US have plenty good things going for them, but the same applies to many other countries. So? It's down to personal preference as to whether you would wish to actually live in them. Never counted, but there are plenty other countries I'd choose to live in - other than either the US or France.
quantum-x used the "openness" of France re advertising - fine! There is a more open attitude, not just in France, but in many EU countries towards sexually orientated advertising in both print media and TV. This is nothing new.Comment

No the French didn't collaborate, if I recall US history correctly Ben Franklin was sent as a US diplomat to France during the US war for independence and it took nearly 3 years before he could convince the French to come help. This does not negate the fact that the French did help the US but they waited until the US army turned the tide of the war and showed the possibility of defeating the BritishComment
