i like blog.mysite.com personally, but you can have that subdomain point to your mysite.com/blog folder so really its 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other.
For word of mouth, I think its easier for someone to remember "blog dot mysite dot com" than "my site dot com forward slash blog". It also looks more like its own domain so theres probably a slight psychological advantage.
Wordpress uses myblog.wordpress.com and google/blogger uses myblog.blogspot.com.Last edited by gwkg; 07-23-2007, 07:54 PM. -
Well a good question. But, since the world is full of simple browsing people and not net savvy ones.
Therefore, "blog.mysite.com", might give the impression that it is only blog and main page can be missed out unless there is some indication out there.
While, "mysite.com/blog", gives an impression of sites having main pages and other features like blog, chat, articles etc. Main page to have these links too.
Not the final word, I can be 100% wrong also. Hope someone else comes soon to give the answer.

There's a few different things that you can take into consideration here.
Yes as said above, the sub-domain will be classified as a separate domain, so indexing might/mightn't work to your advantage.
Personally, I think that it looks cleaner, and well it's a separate part of the site, so it deserves it's own area rather than just another folder. But then again, still know people that will put www infront of everything regardless of what it is. It's damn frustrating to specify "no www, just blog" (although you can just alias a www blog.mysite, it just defeats the purpose of a single level sub-domain).
Tech wise, if you place scripts and so on below the root directory, the sub-domain is easier to do unless you are hardcoding a specific path to the files and not just going "include('../private_stuff/blah.php');". Sure it's only another "../" but that's two levels... personally too annoying for me :PComment

with some handy-dandy mod_rewrite you can have both blog.domain.com and domain.com/blog, but for SEO purposes that might not be the greatest idea.

I go with subdomains usually because I normally have several blogs on a domain and I want them each looked at seperately. However there is also the factor that a subdirectory blog could be looked at by the SEs (I do say could) as an extension of your main site giving you a benefit that way too.Comment

a subdomain is considered a new website by search engines... if you have few content on your site, must consider having http://www.yourdomain.com/yourblog/. if you have too much content, or you just want a new domain you can have http://blog.yourdomain.com/
is just about how you consider is better for you
