    charly charly, being an "older member" as you put it maybe u should learn to read, this matter as already been covered above.

    So now u are saying its not financial? and not fixed? only some bits are now according to u?

    THE WORLD CUP, should include teams from all over the world, thats why every team as to qualify from THEIR continent. Fifa as NO control over were countries are located I am afraid so how can they FIX IT so certain teams get through, they cant.

    The qualifying groups are then picked live on tv from a bag. Then all teams play each other.

    Obviously some groups are easier but that DOESNT mean its fixed u also have to remember for example all the teams in ASIA for example are of similiar ability therefore there games will be just as hard for them as it would be say for SPAIN in a group consisiting of teams of similiar ability.

    oh and the worldcup is in Japan/Korea to help improve that nations football culture, same as it was when it went to USA.

    First u say its all "FIXED for financial reasons" , "now only some of its fixed, its not purely financial", whats next u agree with me?

        I don't know if it's rigged or not.. but it's no secret that the host country is ALWAYS placed in one of the weakest groups. No surprise the host does well in the tournament most of the time

The idea of them getting their arses whooped on home soil every four years would be too much for Americans to take. Hell it would be too much for us English to take and we are used to it.

                                                                                                                                First off, there was one (and only one) country that won the World Cup outside of its continent: Brazil won in Sweden, 1958.

                                                                                                                                About politics: for a long time, only 16 countries played the finals. There was a Brazlian guy, João Havelange, who ruled FIFA for many years; every time there was an election, Havelange wanted to increase the number of teams (until reaching the current 32). Havelange said he wanted to give more chances to other countries and continents, and his adversaries said he wanted just to get more votes (which he indeed did).

                                                                                                                                As far as I remember, the weaker Continents (Africa and Asia), which have many countries (and many votes, one country = one vote), were given a few new openings in the finals, but Europe was given many more (South America was given just one more). So, Europeans don´t have much to complain about; if it is hard today (I personally agree that Holland should be in again), it was harder earlier.

                                                                                                                                I don´t really care much. Is Saudi Arabia too weak? Right, let Germany beat it 8x0, but Germany will have to beat Brazil, Argentina or France on its way to title. But I am sure that the Saudis, the Chinese, the Costa Ricans and all the other countries will enjoy much their participation in the Cup (which is, afterall, the main goal of all this story).

Soccer or Futbol will never be the #1 sport in America. Too many sports to choose from. Plus, Americans in general love high scoring games.
