I did go rafting on the (Picari ?) river in Costa Rica. One guy dislocated his knee. We had to spend 3 hrs with this poor guy screaming in agony down the rest of the river.
Ottawa was a cake walk compared to that.

Pacuare is usually where I go too...something usually always happens. One time a girl flew out of the raft, but luckily she landed on a big rock not in the water/rapid.
Another time, we got stuck on a rock and another raft got stuck on top of us, pinning us in with the water pressure. We all managed to squeeze out and swim in the jungle a bit before ending up scattered everywhere - except my friend Jeff, he had his leg stuck so eventually they managed to deflate it and he finished off his ride on the supply row boat

Normally they aren't in the rough parts of the river. However you will ecounter Jesus Christ Lizards running across the river, tons of snakes (eating lunch lats time I was sitting beside a Boa) and many other creatures.
Normally though you can't focus too much on them or next thing you knwo you'll be in the river
