Police station attacked and police cars set on fire in London

Dont know the full story yet as its breaking news

They are saying two police cars have been set on fire and the police station has been attacked by angry mobs. This is over a police shooting in the area a few days ago

Two patrol cars have been attacked after members of a community where a young man was shot dead by police took to the streets to demand "justice".

Dozens of protesters have gathered outside the police station on the High Road in Tottenham, north London.

Mr Duggan had been travelling in a minicab and was gunned down after an apparent exchange of fire. Officers had been attempting to carry out an arrest under the Trident operational command unit, which deals with gun crime in the black community, according to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

So basically the gun toting criminal didn't want to be arrested so opens fire on the police trying to arrest him and the community goes nuts.

I particularly like a family friends endorsement of Duggan

A family friend of Mr Duggan, who gave her name only as Nikki, 53, said the man's friends and relatives had organised the protest because "something has to be done" and the marchers wanted "justice for the family."

Some of those involved lay in the road to make their point, she said.

"They're making their presence known because people are not happy," she added. "This guy was not violent. Yes, he was involved in things but he was not an aggressive person. He had never hurt anyone."

sounds like the police had no right to be arresting this gun carrying, never hurt anyone but was involved in a few things upstanding citizen.

I think the real reason behind all the demos latley over here is people are pissed at whats going on with the economy and with all the latest police chiefs being involved in the phone hacking scandal and other police selling information to newspapers to make money, people will take any opportunity to get back at the goverment and police. The police have got themselves into a bad situation over here whith a lot of people not trusting them anymore.

Anybody else watching the BBC they are still attacking police cars They were filming live and were filming people throwing rocks at police cars , one of them had to speed off, the other one is being smashed up. Then the camera crew were getting into trouble with the people and they had to stop filming LLoyds bank set on fire as well as Iceland, a lot of looting. the place has gone crazy

Have you been watching the news ? This is not just about him, There has been tension between the local people and the police building up for some time now. It was that incident which sparked it off.

One of the BBC reporters said he was suprised at the age and mix of people becuase they were both young and old. jews, whites and blacks . He said its like this was comming from the community and not just one section

Not much is showing up in the searches that suggests the people of Tottenham are treated in anyway different to anyone else in the country.

They have two special units which deal with that area and other surrounding areas because of high crime rates with guns and knives. The local people are saying they are fed up with being stop searched for no reason and police brutality and the local police not being transparent with investigations. Plus you also have the old tensions from the 80s.

Yeah, i've been watching the news (i live about 15 miles away BTW). there is tension in that area because they are mostly scum, the sort of people who think that it is wrong of the police to tackle criminals like the gunman and drop-dead dealers like Smiley. Remember, those are the children of people who tried to behead a policeman years back. it turned out to be a great excuse to loot didnt it?

I have seen footage of jews running from the police but its obvious that they were just onlookers running back to safety. most of the people there are there just to watch, that is clear from the clips. The people actually "rioting" are 95% black or asian in every clip i have seen and all are young.

I do not agree one bit whith what they are doing at all, but police sometime deserve what they get I have no criminal record and never been in trouble with the law but iv had times where iv been pulled over and they have been idiotic and ignorant bastards and for the way they spoke to me I have no love for them.
I had another time when my son was younger he got pushed off his bicycle and got it stolen I called the police they dident even turn up until about 6 hours later. I myself went and found the guy and got his uncle to pay me the price of the bycicle. We had a mini motor stolen from our garden shed the police did fuck all so Im sorry but I do not respect the police who I pay out of my taxes to do a service
