SEO Linking: PR -VS- Relevance - POLL

    SEO Linking

It is being argued that PR is more important that Relevance.

If you have a site all about "Cars" and you have only 2 choices for backlinks which would you choose to have:

    - A Link from a PR-1 homepage that has relevance and is all about "cars"
    - A Link from a totally non-relevant PR-7 homepage about "women's dresses"
    32
    A Link from a Relavant PR-1 Page
    0%
    17
    A Link from a Totally totally non-relevant PR-7 page
    0%
    15

Good question. I think quality and authority are more important. The PR1 site could be some brand new thrown up page which isn't going to do anything for you. If the PR7 site is authoritative, been around for ages, quality...it would probably be a better choice.

Relevance wins with Google these days. The verdict has been in about that question for quite a while now. So called SEO experts who say otherwise are just after your money.

While it's true you can impart authority from high PR links, if it's not relevant then it will cancel itself out.

Relevance is gonna carry a lot of weight but there's a lot of other factors to consider. If you're targeting say the MILF niche. A link from a site like pornhub is gonna carry more weight than some shitty niche MILF blog that doesn't rank for shit.

I think the fact that he used "cars" in his example, this has little to do with porn.

It's the definition of "relevance" that no one really knows. Is relevance really just two sites that are classified as "adult" in Googles eyes, or SERPs that are the same. Is a relevant site one that has 5-10 terms that match? How can you tell what SERP terms the site your linking to or from are? I completely agree that these days, PR doesn't carry much weight, because you can get easy backlinks from any mainstream domain that is maybe PR4 or PR5 but it's so diluted due to it being a linkfarm that it doesn't carry any linkjuice. Yeah sure, you got nice PR on your inbound stats, but your site still hovers at PR0 or PR1.

Anyways, some of my thoughts. If you have relevant sites out there, then hit my sig.

In your example, PR matters much more. Trust is a massive factor in Google's algorithms. What's to say the relevant link is not from your friends shitty blog? But your example was extreme. A non relevant PR7 versus a relevant PR5 is a different story.

Oh and I agree PR is rather dead (in its original format), but just using it as a measurement of Google's rating/trust of a site.

PR is a waste. Relevance would most likely lead to natural traffic. Go with relevance. Even google says PR is dumb.

Lol at those 8 idiots who voted for high pr backlink. With high pr you can only gain high PR but not good serps.Love when some webmasters says "i have so much backlinks yet no any serps, wtf google ".For example,i have only few backlinks yet i rank in top 10 for one mayor keyword, reason for that is because i target only relevant backlinks no matter what pr they have. Also that same site have only pr1 yet it receives 9k daily se traffic.

Well if i would have a chance to get such link i would get it,especially since in porn everything is more less relevant(since we all sell showing pussy and dick in some way).
But that doesn't change fact how is much better to concentrate your seo campaign on relevant backlinks instead blindy getting backlinks from anywhere.

You are a total moron. Google IS PageRank. That is the core of their algorithm. It's called PageRank. Toolbar PR is a reflection of a pages total PR value or PageRank that page. Google never said or implied "PR is dumb".. just a bunch of mindless idiots like you do because they removed the toolbar PR stuff from webmaster tools because they didn't want everyone focused on link trades, buying links and trading links to boost themselves in the SERPs. They don't want everyone focused on it precisely because IT MATTERS A LOT.

A PR7 page is a trusted page. A PR1 page is nothing. A link from a PR7 page means a great deal more than a link from a PR1 page. Of course there are many other factors with ranking, but when it comes down to it... "relevance" in this example is irrelevant since you fuckwits can't even define what relevance is and have no clue. Relevant to what? What constitutes relevance? Relevance matters and is obviously a factor, but not enough for a PR1 domain to trump a PR7.

How does Google define Relevancy? By looking at the anchor text? And some might think it's strictly about the content of the site. It would be ideal if all the links to your site are built in those sites with relevant content. But is that how Google tell what is relevant and what not???

Links using relevant anchor text could be considered relevant too.

                                                              From, http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/anchor-text

Link relevancy is determined by both the content of the source page and the content of the anchor text. It is a natural phenomenon that occurs when people link out to other content on the web.
This human-powered information is essential to modern-day search engines. The search engines can use it to determine what the target page is about and thus which queries it should be relevant for. These descriptions are relatively unbiased and produced by real people. This metric, in combination with complicated natural language processing, makes up the lion’s share of link relevancy indicators online.
With that said, I would think that if you want to rank high for the keyword, "adult porn movie", and many people around the world link your content, using the same anchor text (adult porn movie) on different sites, then Google would consider your content to be relevant to Adult Porn Movie, and therefore gives you a better ranking for this keyword.

And perhaps you can spread your links on sites ranging from PR1 to 9, relevant to irrelevant, using the same anchor text that you want to rank well on, which would/could make sense to Google because real world people talk about anything, anywhere and anytime they want.
