An article on Yahoo news tonight talks about 9/11 and the loss of documents, as well as the attempt at recovery. The article talks about the vast information that was stored in the WTC complex, including documents from the CIA, State Department, and god only knows what else.

A private disaster response company, BMS CAT, was hired to help recover materials in the library, where the jet plane's nose came to rest. The company claimed it saved all but 100 volumes. But the recovery limited access to information related to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s, as the U.S. prepared to launch an attack a month later.

Am I reading this correctly? The United States planned to invade and attack the Soviets in Afghanistan in about the time the Russian announced they were leaving?
