    GFY Sysadmin step inside....I'll make you an offer you can't refuse

    GFY admin hit me up, I'll offer to assist and/or go over your setup
    FREE of charge to see if I can help improve it. I even don't require access
    to the server(s) if that would be an issue for not taken me up on my offer.
    I think I could even give options for improvement just by asking some questions
    about the setup and by the info you can give me by ICQ.

    I'll do it for free no strings attached.....if it works good for you if it doesn't
    it won't get any worse. If it works really well.....you let GFY know in a single
    post so GFY can see that I'm not just talking the talk without walking the walk.

    If I fail miserably I will admit it publically on GFY too. GFY can't lose in this
    deal, only I can by putting my reputation on the line for free!

    I'll be looking forward curiously to see if they'll get in touch to give it a shot!

                                                                                                      I doubt the problem is something that can be fixed by only giving advices.
                                                                                                      Their main problem is the database which must be huge and only some indexes
                                                                                                      wont help.
                                                                                                      I'm sure they have replication as well but considering the amount of writes and
                                                                                                      the complexity of the database it needs more than a raw setup which can't be
                                                                                                      implemented in a few hours.
                                                                                                      Keep in mind that the last downtime, if I recall correctly, was of about 2 days
                                                                                                      when all what was done was adding some indexes.

                                                                                                          couldn't hurt them to get another perspective on things. Do they have
                                                                                                          replication? How is set up? Are read and write queries seperated on different
                                                                                                          replication slaves? I think they aren't else you would see a huge difference
                                                                                                          in browsing GFY or posting on GFY and there's not

                                                                                                                  I think you are overestimating the size of the GFY database especially when
                                                                                                                  considering that it was compacted by purging historical records.

                                                                                                                  I think the main problem is in the countless modifications they've tried over
                                                                                                                  time to solve the problem. Anyway it doesn't really matter coz obviously

                                                                                                                                              Not to downplay your skills because i have no idea what they are, but I think a company such as Playboy has quite a few programmers and systems admins and it is not just ONE person working on the system. They also have access to top developers and systems admins from Jupiter Hosting. I think they are pretty well covered and if this were an easy fix it would be in place. As for an outside perspective - I think they have that covered also, don't you?

                                                                                                                                                      someone and perhaps a different perspective might work. I'm not trying to
                                                                                                                                                      teach or show anyone a lesson. I have nothing to proof on GFY or any of it's
                                                                                                                                                      users. You don't see me here promoting my business either trying to get
                                                                                                                                                      new clients......you know why? Coz I don't have to.....and I don't mean
