    What would you do

I had this domain on Sedo for a long time already and totally forgot about it.
So i just got a mail that some dude offered 200 bucks for it. I go check that domain and see it expired long time ago.

Now do i reg it again and sell it to the guy or just mail him and tell him that he can buy it himself for 15 bucks?

Normally i wouldnt even consider the first option as i feel its my own stupid mistake and i would screw the guy over but lately i noticed 9 out of 10 people would choose option 2 without any regret. Im tired of being nice to everyone without hardly ever getting anything back.

So i'm seriously in doubt. It's not even about the 200 bucks, more about what is right and what not.

I would tell him it's available through any registrar. Always do the right thing.

seriously, if you're sure it's a legit purchase offer then just reg this name now, then wait two days and accept his offer

you aren't doing anythign wrong, since he basically agreed to pay $200 bucks for it, and it means that the domain name must be worth for him even more

personally im not sure if i'd do it though, but im just too lazy and I never sold anything via sedo (always using escrow.com and in that case its' not worth the hassle for 200 bucks)
          I don't use ICQ anymore.

He would do the same thing to someone who Did not know the difference. If you do this he will learn from his mistake.

please convince me how exactly you're proving your good morals and ethics if you declined a $200 bucks offer in this particular case?

it's not that you're convincing the buyer (or actively seeking him) , he came to your door, willing to pay you $200 bucks for something he thought you own

if he didn't search Sedo, he wouldnt find your listing and he wouldnt buy that domain....... I mean, the potential buyer didnt come up with the name on his own, because if he did, then he would first have checked if it's available....

so basically Franck bought some shitty domain, put it on Sedo and the name expired in the meantime, and now a guy was looking for a perfect domain for himself and he was browsing Sedo and found "Franck"s domain... if the domain wasn't listed there, he wouldn't have thought of it

if hes willing to pay 200 bucks why not.

i think what would be lame is if you regged it and then told him no, i want 300 bucks.

well I said also how I would handle it - I' woudlnt have re-registered and sold it either, but only because I wouldn't have found it worth the hassle

Im interested in being convinced though why exactly it would be morally wrong to re-register and sell that domain in this scenario, like some people imply

Im afraid if i tell him he can buy it himself for a few bucks it maybe some scumbag. Someone who doesnt deserve this and pulled shit on many people. I mean if i know the guy was a nice person i wouldnt even think about it. Just the fact that i dont know who it is makes it harder.

personally .. the right thing to do is suppose to be the choice of our peers .. but we often choose what ever will better benefit us... by asking us what the right thing to do ...you actually wanted us to endorse your choice of re-registering it and selling it for the $200 ...if this is the case .. don't ask .. just do .. you won't loose any sleep .. just do it and move on .. we'll all try and be moral and proper on here but if given the choice i am sure it would be different on an almost daily basis ..

And please don't imply that I am not fair and too much money oriented (I don't think you want to imply this though), I am just seriously interested why exactly re-registering this domain and selling to the guy who submitted his offer, would be something morally wrong... And please don't reply that the fact that I don't see it, only proves that my morals are wrong.

Perhaps me dealing in general with the domain biz, where all that matters is to be the first guy to find (using quite sophisticated methods) a nice domain name and buy it from the owner under the current perceived market value, causes that I have a little different outlook on this situation - especially since I don't consider the domain biz "extra money" like most people here, it's just the money that pays my bills.
                                          I don't use ICQ anymore.

I think it is a scam. If he was serious about it he would have checked the expiry date. Bet he offers you $5k bankers draft and asks you to send him the difference.

I told him its free and already regret. It could be a scam. It could be someone who was ready to take pay 2k for it...who knows. I doubt it was that 1 honest person who would do the same out of 1000 scumbags.
