UFC's Sherk/Franca Suspended for Drug Use

From the UFC site:

The California State Athletic Commission released information stating that UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk tested positive for the banned substance Nandrolone Metabolite and that lightweight contender Hermes Franca tested positive for Drostanolone, also a banned substance, in drug tests following their five-round fight on July 7th at UFC 73 in Sacramento, California.

Damn, Sherk was such a monster (no pun intended)
Apparently both will be suspended 1 year ... so a new champ will obviously need to be crowned. Shame.

Used drugs in mma is normaly things , many fighter must used some substance if they want have good muscle. They training very hard 2-3 training in day , normaly muscle without drusg will be small. I know because I also training mma , but I don`t used drugs ....

IF you're saying that you have to use "banned substances" to get big and strong, I completely disagree. You can get exceedingly strong (big muscles) with the proper nutrition, supplementation, and weight training regiment. Personally (my opinion), I have NO respect for anyone that resorts to using illegal substances or GH.

Damn, how fucking stupid do you have to be to take a banned substance when youre the belt holder and know you'll be tested? I know they all cycle shit, but at least stop soon enough that it gets out of your system before your tested. I guess roids don't make your brain muscle stronger.

I think Sherk has a good case to appeal his positive level. I believe the Nandrolone level of an athlete exerting himself is a 6, and Sherk's level was a 12. I believe Royce Gracie's level in his positive test was a 50, and I honestly believe he did juice. With the crazy amount of supplements Sherk takes I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was to blame.

Before you jump on the supplement argument, several athletes have successfully sued supplement companies that are putting substances that are not listing on the ingredients in their product, including an Italian athlete here http://www.rte.ie/sport/2000/0228/athletics3.html

But true is brutal . In every sports we have drugs. I also think that poeple who used drugs they do wrong , but true is that without drugs they/we don`t will be have records etc. Football players in big football club must used drugs because players body after 60-70 match in season will be crash .. also if somebody think that sprinter (Asafa Powell ) run 100m in 9.77 because he have talent , that this people is crazy ... Every champion in every sports used something. Best strong men in world Mariusz Pudzianowski say in interview " Without drugs substance you can be good in sports , but if you want to be a champion ....

Sherks training regimen is insane, and he does take a lot of supplements. He may try to claim that it may be possible that his test is a false positive. Chances are though he will be stripped of title and the UFC will pick another four top contenders like Kenny Florian and three others and have another two elimination fights and pair the two winners up to fight for the now vacant lightweight title, the same way Sherk won the belt not too long ago..

the guys that do take the drugs usually come off in time for it to get out of their system. I guess you could miss it by a little and test positive after being off for a bit.

Is it possible that between the legal supplements and the extreme diet and training his body can produce high levels on its own. I know that the guys i train with do different types of training that will naturally increase the testosterone levels in there body. these guys compete in all natural competitions and i know its not to the level that a shot would give you but you can naturally increase the levels.

You and I musta been watching different fights bro. It wouldn't be a waste of time to get a bit more educated on the sport.
Their fight was exciting as hell, there was a lot of technical fighting as well as the power of them both, and it was a constant struggle. They're both shitheads for 'roiding up but that fight was fantastic.

sorry man, I do not find the technical aspect of the fight too thirlling, specially when they are on the ground and Sherk totally dominating the action, all the same moves, all against the fence. BORING ! I know he is out to win,Franca was more exciting with his knees, but on the ground he was overwhelmed even if he did have some good moves to get out of holds. Even the referee was urging them to act

The UFC has to do something about this... this looks real bad on teh sport. They need to start testing everybody asap.

Actually it was what you call Lay and Pray. The werstlers are comming back with decision fights.

Technically it wasn't half bad but it was a boring fight for most fans. And Sherk had his back a couple times and didn't even wanna try to go for the sub. He wanted the decision.

I hope they strip him from his title and put BJ next for title contention.

Completely agree, to me it was the best fight on the card - 5 rounds of Franca trying desperately to compete on the ground and doing a great job of keeping Sherk at bay.

However, he couldn't counter the strength and it was all Sherk (save for the 3 knee strikes, any of which would've blacked out a mortal man.)

Certainly 2 great fighters and everyone's loss we won't be seeing either in the Octagon until next Summer at least.
