Q for Amp & Designers. What Display do you prefer?

I picked up an 18" NEC 1850E flat panel yesterday...

It has a native resolution of 1280x1024...and after using it for 24 hours I think I want to rip my eyes out.

It is damn sharp, sharper than my old Mitsu 900u 18" CRT, and I thought this would be better for design work.

What is the weapon of choice for design work?

I'm on a 19" ViewSonic right now @ 1024 x 768 res, and it's okay.... nothing spectacular but I can't complain either.... but I'm gonna switch to a Sony Flat Panel 18.1" in the next week or so...

Have you worked with one before? I am curious why you want to move to LCD.

In my case it looked like it would be better but in practice I don't think it is.

The Sony has DVI inputs so maybe you will get a better pic. If you see the NEC 1850E in comparison let me know what you think.

I'm On a Sony 21" CDF-520G ( Or somthing) Using 1280*1024 Any resolution lower then that. And the workspace off applications like Photshop and Flash becomes to small. I just can't work it I have to scroll within the work area. just my

I end up doing that too, and it sucks, but I've gotten used to it.

yeah, I used to work on LCD for a few years.... I don't know.... space I guess is the motivation right now, but I haven't decided yet either.... still shopping around....

Hehe yea I know. I didn't get use to it so I got use to 1280*1024 instead. If I have it higher then all the webpages is 1/3 off my screen on the left and that suck's.

Shoplifter - I used a Sony 21" 500PS and switced to a 17" lcd Did'nt like it so I baught a new Sony 21 crt. The colours on the lcd was not as good as on crt. And the hz was also low so my eyes started aking after a short wile. There are probably LCD displays out there that are as god as the best crt displays but they cost to much for now.

Check out my wallpaper... it has little hash marks for the different resolutions. It works like a champ when doing any type of layout work (Galleries, front ends, etc.) You just drag to the marks to test sites at different resolutions.

I work with a Iiyama 19" at 1280x1024 and at 1600x1200 if needed.
I've worked some with a computer with a flat screen LCD monitor
I really hate them.
They are real bright and hurt your eyes in no time.
Most are quite slow.... the mouse arrow leaves like white traces.
Plus they cannot really handle high resolutions.
Best monitors for designing are just the reg monitors if you ask me.
Best brand is eizo but Sony Philips NEC and Iiyama are great as well.

True SR,.. I think the regular bulky monitors offer much better overall clarity.... but I wouldn't be limited to just the LCD.... I have 3 other monitors I can switch between..... I don't know... just thought it'd be cool I guess....

Sony 21" Multiscan G520.. in 1280 x 1024.. sweetest tube i've ever used...

anything less and theres too much scrolling, tool palettes take up too much room etc.

24" Sony (widescreen).. swap between 1280x768 and 1900x1200 depending on what I'm doing..

Wait till next year new gen flatpanel monitors will be huge and kick ass

I use 1024 do mostly coding, but suits me fine for basic deisgn use a 15" synmaster 570s - samsung

After 24 hours of use I am returning the NEC 1850 LCD...

The 60Hz scan rate in native resoluion was totally migraine inducing.
