A family crest is cool, especially if you have a motto. A good friend of mine got a huge back piece that incorporated his family crest and motto (in gaelic, no less) and it looks wonderful.
Where are you planning to put it? Where are your others? The top one would be good on a upper arm or calf piece, especially if you incorporate a celtic knotwork armband. That could be very nice. The bottom one would make a GREAT back piece (or part of a back piece). You could even take the swirl in the center and give it color if you wanted, rather than blacks/greys. You could always work with an artist on a new crest, working off what your crest currently looks like, but punching it up to make it how you want it to look. Any of them would look good as greys and blacks, but I'm always a fan of a pop of color in the midst of it. I think it's a good contrast. At least, that's what I've done for the ones I've worked on.
As for them turning colors, that really only happens if you either get them done by a shitty artist or really abuse your skin. Always remember to put sunscreen on your tats or else they fade and change color. You can always get them touched up.
