I'm an offender when I use to smoke. I was playing roulette the first time I was in Vegas and when drunk kept blowing my smoke in the dealer's face accidentally. He couldn't tell me not to smoke but boy was he pissed, rightfully so.

I watched a kid just litter yesterday, no reason. Told him he dropped something, magically it found its way in the trash can.

The thing is people don't want government interference but they won't take the social responsibility to do things the right way in the first place, so rules have to be implemented.

And yes on the hookah bars - we are in Tucson and they are still allowed. At the office we have to implement the 20 ft. rule too.
That was a ridiculously general statement. If that's the case, can we get a law passed so I don't have to stand the stench of some ugly old hag's overloaded perfume because she can't be bothered to shower more than once a week? Maybe a law so when I'm standing on any given street, I don't have to inhale all the exhaust toxins from buses and cars that make me want to gag?.......c'mon, give me a break. I'm tired of, as a grown human being who happens to be a very respectful smoker, being regulated to no end on choices i'm not allowed to make for myself. Why not offer smoking bars and non-smoking bars, etc. Either way, please don't lump me and people like me in with the idiots. Thank you.

Where the fuck do you guys live? We have plenty of smoking bars in south florida, and those are the ones I don't frequent.

This brings up a good point, Airlines. Some of the flights are worth the fine so as not to have to chew nic gum and patches stuck on every bare spot visible. I look like a test dummy after 6 hours on a plane.

No Need to politely ask for a room that doesn't smell of smoke... DEMAND IT ! LOUDLY ! You are entitled to it

My point is, that IF I smoked in the room, (Not surreptitiously, out the window) but straight up - and I PAID $150 for THE EXTRA CLEANING...

Then that is the hotels problem? Not yours or mine?
if it is London you are talking about .. then the fine is most likely per cigarette ..

they might even kick you out .. after a second violation .. if you light up in your room ... they will know right away most likely .. and warn you that you will get the fine and will be asked to leave if you smoke another one..

paying upfront and just saying you are going to smoke will not be tolerated in any London hotel ..

if you want to smoke in your hotelroom .. why dont you NOT go to a 100% non smoking hotel ?

there are hotels where you can smoke .. even in London .. just go there ..

lol .. you are misinformed ... I can smoke a cigarette in any hotel room .. and the next day you dont smell a thing ...

you are talking about excessive smoking day in day out .. yest that smell will stay there for a long looong time .. but ONCE cigarette ?? never

and not to forgot that if you just light up in London the fire alarm might go off .. I was staying in the Victoria Park Plaza once .. and all of a sudden this happened ...

appears somebody lit up in the toilet thinking he could get away with it ... the entire hotel was evacuated ... they will also add this to the bill most likely .. fire brigade showed up .. everything .. do not smoke in a non smoking room ...

Remember, I DIDNT smoke myself in the hotel room in London, because I RESPECTED the fact that the next guest may be a non smoker... But I cant help thinking that if I had paid the £150 'surcharge'? They could have cleaned the room, made something extra for themselves, and I could have enjoyed a ciggy, while on vacation...

I stay in hotels every week. Last one was last wednesday in Minnesota and I asked for smoking which got me a free upgrade to a suite as they didn't have any regular smoking rooms. Occasionally I end up in zero smoking hotels or states but I just deal with it by going outside or going to bed.

Last Summer in Florida, a Chevy I rented smelled like 20 packs of smoked cigarettes & Pine. I let the car rental agency know that I wasn't happy about the stink and asked for another car, and they gave me a free upgrade to a Lexus. Sweet!

Filling your lungs before re-entering the hotel and letting a big plume of smoke out is a nice way to tell them to go fuck themselves.

You could also re-arrange the furniture and complain the rooms weren't feng shui.

I know plenty of people who refuse to stay in a room that wreaks like smoke when they ask for a non-smoking room. It's not like they can just come in and spray some febreeze and then move in another customer if there was a bunch of people in there stinking the place up. Can take a while to air that out.
Agreed. I'll even say that it is impossible to clean/air out a room that has been smoked in unless you repaint and replace all furniture, curtains etc

I reckon, regular cleaning (if they do it properly after each guest) Fresh linens/towels and a nice squirt of febreze would surfice.

Think again. Last Saturday I went to my brother's place. He doesn't smoke, his girlfriend doesn't smoke and he doesn't allow anyone to smoke inside.

The first thing I noticed and one of the first things I said: "A smoker has been here". And I was right. About 5 hours earlier one of his mates, a guy who smokes, came to visit him. The guy never smoked inside the house but he did sit on the couch for about an hour, talked, had a drink and left.

So 4 hours after the guy had left, I could still smell that he had been there.

nothing is worse than a hotel room that reeks of smoke
you should smell a pub now that smoking is banned in there, you'll end up wishing the place smelled of old fag-ash.

I used to smoke, but quit over 8 years ago. Now I find it one of the most disgusting and rude things people can do.

What a very enjoyable thread. LOL

I clarified upon check-in that the fee was $250 for the duration of the stay and not $250 nightly. While that does not make our choice "right", I can say with confidence that the room was otherwise spotless nightly. Also, that the scent of this room at the Holiday Inn was essentially indifferent from check-in to check-out, worse at some points. The moment at which security came by was 3 days into the show and 45 minutes before we were finished using the suite as a hospitality venue. With that said, the error here (I think) was largely that for the hour before this time the door was ajar and people were congregating in the hall - something that was not previously done.

For those that enjoyed, I'm happy. For those that didn't, they had Julius' (JFK) room across the hall as a lounge :-)

Next year, I'll be booking the 2nd floor suite which has a patio.

                                                    Cheers,

Sorry to dissapoint you. While the picture is certainly gross having used cups with water as ash trays, this essentially eliminates further mess with complete containment of the ashes... and those were emptied religiously because I'm a bit hyper about cleanliness. LOL

At the end of the day, in this locality the populous is smoking pot inside and outside of the hotel, everywhere. While I don't judge those who enjoy doing so, I am not personally comfortable to be responsible for such an environment, nor do I believe that such activity is condusive to business networking.

We provided unlimited food and beverage hospitality for four full days and nights. The suite was ventiliated 24-7 without complaint (until the last moment) and essentially had passive approval from the hotel itself. I know very well that it was visited by nearly everyone in attendance of the Ynot Summit with our open invitation... also, that a tremendous amount of business was facilitated here.

The first thing I noticed and one of the first things I said: "A smoker has been here". And I was right. About 5 hours earlier one of his mates, a guy who smokes, came to visit him. The guy never smoked inside the house but he did sit on the couch for about an hour, talked, had a drink and left.

So 4 hours after the guy had left, I could still smell that he had been there.
did they go to the trouble to air the room in those 5 hours ? probably not ....

if you sit in a closed room .. then yes you are going to smell it ..

I'm smoking right now. LOL. Yuck! Really need to quit again.
