Good idea Elli, people read the newspaper and dog lovers will sometimes have nothing else to do but take up the cause.
As mentioned above..make sure your yard is secure from other dogs getting in..even if it means putting in a taller fence. Cayman needs to feel safe. He is for sure traumatized right now..poor fella, I just want to hug him and let him know what a brave pooch he is.
legally, they might not get done what you want done..you might have to take matters in your own hands to make sure they dont attack again.
Shooting them will land you in legal trouble as you well know, but a can of bear spray will blind them fuckers long enough for you to possibly cripple them..scare the fuck out of the dogs so they dont want to leave their own yard.

The owner is related to the renter. Same last name and it's not a common name at all.Good luck on your case. The person who owns the rental will deny they knew the tenant owned dogs (and this possibly could be true) and they will likely not be held liable.
The county prolly doesn't have any money as most don't and it will turn out to be a waste of time.
The owner prolly doesn't have a lot of money since he rents and the fact that he doesn't care about the harm his pitt can do = he likely doesn't have anything to lose.
best bet you can get your vet bills covered from the owner.
It sucks what happened to your dog. Let us know how the lawsuits go.
Imagine if the pitt would have attacked a small child.
