        I guess you can signup as an affiliate and watch how long your cookie is set to expire. You can do this in:

        Firefox = Tools>Options>privacy>show cookies

        IE7 = Internet Options > Browsing history settings > View files > Find the cookie and open it up.

          I just tested this out to be sure, granted this only works if you click on the affiliate link like any referal user would.

          In firefox, open it up and look for the ccbill cookie with the affiliate's ID on it. Your looking for where it says Expire on it and you have your anwser....

            Interesting - ie method didn't work which is what IW as trying before I posted here. I just see the encoded txt file. Firefox method worked great. Most of the programs I promote seem to have a 3 day expiration. One had a 1 day expiration and one had a 1 month expieration. The one with a one month experation doesn't seem to actually be doing business anymore as it just goes to a parking page.

            So, now the question is how important is this and is it worth trying to find programs that use the maximum 30 day expiration?

            I'm going to post full results of what I found on my blog listed in my sig.

              On the IE test, if you see the cookie, dont click on it. To the right of that, there are several columns. One of them columns should be the expire column.

              I run a gay site, and we have our expires set at 1 day. If an affiliate refers a user and there is no signup at that point, and that same user comes back to your site a week later and signus up, through another link (ex. my own advertising), why should the affiliate get credit for that? Thats why I got mine set at 1 day anyways.

                I agree if it is through your own advertising and your own tracking cookie replaces the one they clicked on from my site -- however suppose they come to your site from my ad and then a week later they remember that cool site they visited and go back on their own. I believe in this case I should get credit. For this reason, I'm going to start looking for affiliates with 30 day expiration on the cookies and see if it helps my ratios.

                  See thats the thing. You cannot modify or replace the ccbill cookie. Thats set by ccbill themselves. I would be curious to see how many porn sites have it set longer.
