These fucking docs try to load mee up on narcotics but i am trying to stay away from em .... going to find a natural route.

Been stretching and what not and seeing my chiroprator its helping so far.

Homeopathy is a crock of shit. Might as well sprinkle glitter on yourself and pray to the fairies.

I say dump the chiro and go to a good massage therapist, drink lots of water, keep track of your diet, shit like that. You still smoke? That can add to the problem.

God I'm sure glad I don't come to you guys for advice ...

Juicy : go to your local CMS or Savemart and grab a bottle of Calcium Magnesium caplets (I get Jamesons - 333mg Calcium : 167mg Magnesium : 20mg Zinc)

you dont need very much to do the job ... take one caplet every 3 days, or more often if needed, and after a week you will not have any more muscle spasms as long as you keep taking it.

Magnesium is the answer for muscle spasms -- ask any sports doctor. THe body does not readily absorb Magnesium without Calcium, and vice versa (this is why TUMS with Calcuim is a fucking scam!)

And don't worry because the body has a tolerance for high levels of both -- The only thing that will do you damage is the Zinc, but you would have to take about 10 caplets a day for this to be a problem.

                Yep.

One reason you can get muscle spasm's is a lack of potassium, which your muscles need to function properly. Bananas have lots of potassium. Eat bananas.

I have had pelvic muscles cramps since 2002, coming and going....my doctor always puts me on Amitryptline(not sure if i spelled it right). Its a very weak anti-depressant but what it is really good for is relaxing skeletal muscles etc.....i take 1 pill a few hours before bedtime and usually after 2 nights i feel great....

actually that would be Magnesium .... which a banana has about 30mg of

Yes they are high in potassium, but it is the magnesium that soothes muscles.

A constant dull muscle pain (such as "heavy arms") can be a sign of potassium deficiency, but for muscle spasms and cramps (and charlie horses) you want to look towards increasing your magnesium.

hopefully a mod can delete a few of them?

Juicy -- where are the cramps? Legs? At night?

It's your diabetes, plain and simple. It's a symptom. Not a whole lot you can do. Some say drinking diet tonic water with Quinine works, but the best thing is to eat less carbs. The sugar viscosity plays havoc with muscle tissue.

                                                Good advice!

I've recently replaced all of my household salt with himalayan salt crystals which have 80+ minerals in them as opposed to refined, processed salt which is sodium chloride. This is apparently a good solution for balancing levels of magnesium also ...

Here's some info about making a sole salt solution to drink: http://www.himalayancrystalsalt.com/html/the_sole.html

There's also other specific tablets like the above that you can get from a natural health shop which contain pure magnesium and other elements. I can't remember the exact one I was prescribed but its a blackmores product pcph or phpc or something but I'm in australia .... there's a range of them with different letters that all have different levels of sulphate, magnesium etc to balance your levels.

Here's a specific blackmores magnesium product:
                                                http://www.blackmores.com.au/Product...ProductId=1823

Its really hard finding a good naturopath but if you are serious about keeping the man made shit out of your body you are on the right path.

                                                Good luck ;-)

                                                  here's a good homeopathic remedy....

                                                  H20

Drink more water than you think you need. Especially before anything physical.

You definately need to substitute your salt with something like the crystals above ... they actually help rid your body of the chemicals left behind by processed salt & can help break down excess proteins to remove them from the body etc.

Salt is actually meant to be rehydrating because it moves the h20 in your body around, but processed salt does the opposite, starving your cells of water.

Bronco, its a common theory that lots of water can't harm you but that's not entirely true. Anyone with digestive issues needs to be careful how much water they drink, but most importantly when they drink it. Drinking too much water half an hour either side of food can actually dilute the digestive acids making food harder to break down. That puts strain on other parts of the digestive system and that can lead to other issues ...

When cooking at home I rarely, if ever, add salt to anything. Unfortunately, everytime you buy any prepackaged foods (bad habit, I know), or go out to eat, then everything comes with a whole ton of added salt. Kinda crazy of the Danes, IMO danish meat and vegetables are some of the best around, so why the heck they need to add salt by the bucketload beats me.

yeah that is really wierd I have never heard that ... and must be frustrating too. there would be something that could be used to detox that ... a compound that sticks to sodium chloride ... probably magnesium or phosphate or something.

i'm really interested in the chemistry behind this but not very smart in that way ... I tried to go back to college a few years ago to study food as medicine but couldn't even understand the course names - it was all chemistry.

I think its funny that we take little tablets to adjust the chemical balance in our bodies but we spend so little time thinking about the chemical elements in the kilos of food we eat every day. But I'll stop now before I get anymore carried away on this subject ;-)

The other posters are correct; a very common cause of muscle spasms is a deficiency of magnesium and/or potassium. However, consuming sea salt or any other salt containing minerals is counterproductive because most Americans consume way too much salt (about 10x what's actually needed by the body) while at the same time getting too little potassium.

It's somewhat of a misconception that bananas are really high in potassium; everyone always mentions them, but actually, summer fruits (peaches, cherries, watermelon, most berries) are really high in potassium, as are dark green leafy veggies (spinach, chard, collards.)

The *balance* of minerals and trace mins is also crucial, so simply eating more of some minerals or trace mins can be not so great, as it throws the balance off, which can cause other problems. You won't have problems adding some potassium to your diet, safest and easiest to find is potassium gluconate. Or, better yet, find a Jamba Juice and buy fresh made green juices made with as many deep leafy greens as you can get.

As for homeopathic remedies... not only have they been proven in a number of reputable mainstream scientific journals to be effective, the Queen of England and the entire Royal Family are treated by a homeopathic physician, and homeopathy is remarkably effective for many types of illness, including things like muscle cramps... but you will want to find a really well trained homeopathic doc, because the nature of the way they are prescribed requires a very detailed evaluation. They work on a completely different basis than conventional biochemical medicine, more in the realm of physics.

I've personally found that in many cases, the homeopathic remedies work much faster and/or more permanently for things like aches, pains, flus, inflammations. I would probably use a combination of treatments for anything serious and life threatening, and I think most homeopathic docs would also recommend that. But calling them useless or ineffective is simply not an accurate assessment. If you can't find a good homeopath who is really properly trained, hit me up, I know a lot of holistic docs throughout the US and can probably at least get you a lead on somebody.

This isn't true at all ... there is a very big difference between PROCESSED SALT which is actually sodium chloride, sea salt which has minerals but some impurities and salt crystals which are in their pure form and are full of actual minerals.

Salt is actually a scientific name given to a combination of minerals which are entirely neutral so what do you mean by 'salt containing minerals'? That's what salt is supposed to be ... a combination of minerals. What you are calling 'salt' is actually sodium chloride.

The point I was trying to make originally is that all sodium chloride in your diet should be replaced with salt ... and no, we do not have enough of this in our diet, but we do have too much sodium chloride.
