I almost find it inversely proportional to traffic on a few sites I've run. At various times over the last 5 years when I've had higher page rank I got less traffic. Page rank bottomed out then I had more traffic. I've also had sites that never got above PR1 and got plenty of SE traffic.
The only thing it's useful for is getting backlinks from other "quality" sites.
