I'd say it was a back and forth fight before he took the knee... A lot of cage pressing and clinching, then he goes down for the takedown and eats a knee pretty hard. In UFC that'd be a valid move, but in the amateur promotions they don't allow knees to the head, so an illegal strike is an illegal strike, just like a poke in the eye or a shot to the nuts
