    site watermarks over top of nonoriginal image

    I noticed a site where a photo that was obviously a copywritten photo from a major magazine was there and they had put their own watermark on it

    this seems pretty unethical, don't the major magazines (or website) ever call them on it? can they get sued, or do they just remove the photo if they receive a complaint and nothing else comes of it? what if the photo is copied and ends up somewhere else on the net out of their control, but still with their watermark?

      They get a DMCA notice and remove the image... or leave it and get sued.

              interesting, I saw a site with 1000's of images that obviously came from 1000's of different photographers and magazines/websites/sources etc

              so they are ok as long as they remove an image within a reasonable amount of time when notified to remove it?
