I was on my daily 12 mile bike ride Friday afternoon rocking along with my IPod when I heard some tires squealing and looked over to see a pos tuner style Honda and a brand new Ford pickup coming towards me. At first I thought they were racing but the Ford started ramming the Honda in the rear and I new this was going to get ugly FAST.
They were doing about 35 to 40 mph at this point and then the Ford hits the Honda and sends it fish tailing right towards me! I'd say the Honda made about 3 turns, each time getting wider and wider as it came towards me. I had come almost to a stop but had both feet on the peddles so I could still make a move. I had to wait untill the last second to see which way the Honda was going to go. If it hooked and started to roll I would have had to go one way and if it stayed right side up but still moving forward I would have had to go a different way.
The Honda stayed upright and started to come off the road right at me so I peddled forward and let it slide past me missing by about a cars width. The pos Honda had just enough mod to keep it from hooking and rolling and the driver made a smart move by letting of the gas when he started to fish tail.
The Honda came to rest just behind me and then the Ford slides right up beside the Honda and I'm now thinking they are going to start shooting or something. The Honda had a lot of damage but drove off and the Ford followed still trying to ram it as they got out of my sight.
Police came and got my statement and as I stood there the details came in. Turns out the Honda caused a 3 car wreck on the interstate with serious injuries and the Ford was a witness that was just trying to rundown the Honda as he fled the scene. Down the road from me the Ford caught the Honda and got out and beat him with a crowbar taking off two fingers and then the Ford drove off and the cops went looking for him.
If I had my back to them i think I would have been toast but since I was facing them I had a chance to make the right move to get out of the way.
