A lot of programs set the customer to expire after the true expire date so they can retry the members card if it declines.

Example: The rebill comes up on a Thursday the 9th, the customer declines for NSF. The billing company will try again 4 days later on Monday, the 13th and see if it has funds.

This is a common practice for several gateways.
