You can live a nice, comfortable life on that amount of money in the US, depending on where you live. Sure, if you live in Los Angeles or New York or Chicago etc likely your lifestyle won't be that great, but there are a lot of places where that amount of income could by you pretty nice house, a couple of cars and a nice life.
