The USSR won Canada a lot of times before Russians played in the NHL (see World Championship stats). However, who cares about NHL anymore since we have KHL? For example. Russian goalkeeper is a KHL player who never been in NHL club.

To be honest Canada doesn't really care about Hockey World Championships, we care more about the World Juniors. Not to mention The World Championships mean dick all when so many players are still playing in the NHL playoffs.

Nice win for Russia today. Sad to see Canada shut out of the medals but when you have 40-some shots on net and the other team has less than half that and you still end up losing well, that's the way the puck bounces sometimes.
Could have easily been one more goal for Russia, with the camera angles it was too close to call.
Good game, anyway. Good pressure by Canada at times but quite sloppy play at key times. Russia scored a few very sweet goals, their 2nd in particular.

Very deceiving stats. Canadians shoot from any angle. They always come out strong in the first 15 minutes and then slow down if other team can handle the intensity. They had 22 shots in the 1-st. After that it was pretty much over. On other hand, Russian pass way too much and look for more finesse opportunities.
In last WJ Canada was up by 4 goals and managed to lose. They ran out of gas and choked big time.Comment

Honestly, I can vouch for the fact that Canada could care less about this tournament. I could not tell you who won any of the championships since .. well, they started. Barely anyone even watches if Canada is in the Gold medal game.
It's not sour grapes, it's "who cares".
In terms of importance to Canadians:
1) Olympics
2) World Cup
3) Juniors
4) Paraplegic Games
5) Fred's Invitational Beer League Open

It was also one of the bloodiest games I've seen in a while. seemed like it was one guy after another getting up from the ice with his face spewing red.
That one high-sticking penalty was actualy from the Russian's own teammate, not the Canadian guy. It was a bad call.
It was actually Russia's FIRST goal that was the sweet one I was referring to earlier. I think it was short-handed too, the guy made his own breakaway and scored. The only thing that would have made it any sweeter is if it was a team Canada guy doing it.
The World Cup and Olympics may be the more important times to win for us (no doubt about it actually) but in years past when Canada has won gold in THIS tournament our fans were all too happy about it and we did our fair share of gloating. No harm in a few Russian fans sticking it back to us now, especially since it's been 6 years since we've beat Russia in these championships.
If we're going to boast that hockey is "Canada's game" then we should be winning this event more often than this, and we should care about it. Period. It may be considered a "lesser event" but it's still hockey, the team represents our country.

But still I have to admit I'm not happy with the way our team plays this year... Canadians were great. Though Russians always start slow, and in the end (when they get reeeeeally pissed) all of a sudden they just go and win
