LOL, I wouldn't got that far, but it is a pain. You have to have Joomla on a dedicated server with its own MYSQL database or its so slow.

He implied a DEDICATED for EACH website ... that is NOT true ....
I like joomla because :
- it is feature rich
- it has a more' pro ' look '
- there are less updates ( WP is weekly right ? )
- once you know that it sorta works backways ( create content before menus ... ) , it is vey nice.
WP is also nice , very nice themes , but I find it less professional ...
As for converting themes, I did convert a wordpress theme to joomla in less then 10 minutes with ARTISTEER ...I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !

I wouldn't say Joomla is crap.. It just has a steeper learning curve. It has a shit load of "professional" add ons that allow you to do some pretty nice sites with it.
Wordpress is nice for what it is, but I really don't think you can do some of the more complex stuff with it, like you can with Joomla.

I'm very curious at what do you think Joomla can do that WP can't. I've built all kind of ultra complex CMS with features not even the most advanced adult and mainstream CMS have and so far couldn't find anything that can't be done with WP. Absolutely anything. So really, not arguing with you, but I'm really curious about thatI wouldn't say Joomla is crap.. It just has a steeper learning curve. And a complete waste of time. Proprietary code is often unsecure and slow.
Just look at the long list of Fortune 500 companies using Drupal and Wordpress. People can make Drupal do pretty much whatever they please. Wordpress too, to a lesser extent.
Joomla sucks for a variety of reasons. Haven't used it since right after it forked off of Mambo.★★★

Just compare the list of Fortune 500 companies running websites with Joomla....what's that? Zero?
Drupal has dozens.
The reason you see the huge traffic difference in the two sites's because Joomla and Wordpress are the go to easy user friendly CMS's. Drupal has a steep learning curve. It is much much more powerful. Just ask the White House.
But then again what do the White House and Fortune 500 companies know.....I mean this is GFY!!★★★

Metallica (the only artist worth mentioning out of dozens)
Drupal scales. Period. And you can make it do whatever you want it to do.

1) I posted about numbers of users in reply to KlenTelaris post, not about "quality" of usersJoomla before Drupal? Are you off of your rocker?

2) Oh really? Between other users WP is used by the fucking NASA. You know, those guys so smart the could fake a moon landing. Take a look at other noobs using WP
3) I prefer Drupal over Joomla myself. That being said, it seems to be an objective fact that Joomla is more used than Drupal. Plus, your argument of "look how this ultra sophisticated script is used by companies with dozens of programmers" isn't exactly the best advice when talking about UX. And let's not even start about UI. Just sayin'
4) As we're at it, name 1 thing that Drupal, Joomla OR ANY OTHER FREE CMS can do that WP can't. I always do that question and only hear crickets. Hell, let's make it ANY OTHER PAID CMS. For every single REAL thing you find I promise I'll name 3 your CMS of choice can't do
Again, I never found anything, but be my guest, maybe you can find something. And the beauty of WP is the day you find that something (if ever!!!!), you'll find it done in 1 or 2 weeks at most. For starters, that will never happen with any other CMS, free or paid

The security of closed/open source is entirely dependent on the programmers.
It's all about the programmer, not "open" or "closed" source.

I love Wordpress and would always try and choose it over any other CMS, but it cannot, for example, perform the extremely simple task (in standalone code) of having sortable rated comments.I'm very curious at what do you think Joomla can do that WP can't. I've built all kind of ultra complex CMS with features not even the most advanced adult and mainstream CMS have and so far couldn't find anything that can't be done with WP. Absolutely anything. So really, not arguing with you, but I'm really curious about that
There may also be other stuff it can't do - ie, specialized forum, chat, gallery, video software might be better that WP kluges - so I don't think it's the be all and end all, but I agree it can be customized to do pretty much anything, and is really easy to use.Comment

Depends what you want. All the CMSs mentioned have at least some features you might not necessarily need. If you want an application that performs a relatively simple task then it makes far more sense to code it yourself, especially if that task can't be done in a CMS.
Assuming it's competently written it's likely to be faster because it's not loading a bunch of crap you don't need.
As for security, it works both ways. I'm all for open source, but it allows anyone, good or bad, to analyse the code and spot weaknesses. Write your own code and nobody can comb through it or run it on their server at home trying to find ways to hack it.
That would be open source code, surely? If you mean encoded PHP, you have to be out of your mind to use encoded scripts from someone else. Even open source is risky, depending on where you get it from.Originally posted by blackmonstersYou feel that way because of all the half baked PHP code pumped out by rookies a few years ago.Comment

well, as standalone code, sure it can't. But the thing is that with some customization or by using plugins (depending on what you need more or less) it can do it all. Of the ones you mention:I love Wordpress and would always try and choose it over any other CMS, but it cannot, for example, perform the extremely simple task (in standalone code) of having sortable rated comments.
There may also be other stuff it can't do - ie, specialized forum, chat, gallery, video software might be better that WP kluges - so I don't think it's the be all and end all, but I agree it can be customized to do pretty much anything, and is really easy to use.
- sortable rated comments --> yes, you can build your own from scratch, use a plugin or do a small mod to any Comment rating plugin (basically take the DB and order it)
- specialized forum --> I'm not sure what do you mean here, but WP has pretty good forum plugins OR you can make WP itself work as a forum. OR you can bridge it with most forum software
chat --> many plugins for chat, you can also build an AJAX chat relatively easy
gallery --> please tell me you're kidding
Not only WP has a built in gallery, but the gallery plugins for WP are the top of the crop
video --> we've developed a video solution for WP that is 10 times faster than any free or commercial script, bundled or standalone. More complete, handles ANY (and I mean ANY) kind of video (avi, wmv, mpg, mp4, flv and even smaller video versions for mobile), creates galleries on the fly, rotating thumbs, assigns screencaps to posts, watermarks and so on. I don't know of any other CMS that can do this other than WP. But even without our script, there are hundreds of video plugins for WP, ranging from very simple to pretty complex
As an example of what I mean, our multimedia manager script could work with Drupal and Joomla with some small mods, but... why bother? For the 3 persons that may use Drupal or Joomla? Seriously, it's just common sense. The day I see someone asking for Drupal or Joomla, that's the day I'll care about it, after all it's our business. In the meanwhile, it's just a waste of timeThis post is endorsed by CIA, KGB, MI6, the Mafia, Illuminati, Kim Jong Il, Worldwide Ninjas Association, Klingon Empire and lolcats. A couple of years back, I had a Joomla skilled guy set up a site for me that turned out to be fairly popular. From a user-friendly perspective, it was easy and quick managing the site and I certainly wouldn`t say it was shit.
I like WordPress too but lots of people state that the coding in WP is shit.
Horses for courses I guess.
