So the answer to this problem is to remove the rights of the individual? Not everyone who owns guns commit crimes, so why do they have to suffer because some guy robs a liquer store? Educating people is by far a better solution and one that could happen if the laws were written to support it. Instead all out restrictions and bans on guns, or whatever, why not require people to learn about what they are doing. It would work better than just saying "no" and putting them in jail.
Michael Moore . . . what a pig.

I think that when Bush let the assault weapons ban lapse, it was purely political. Just like the gay marriage amendment attempt. Just like all abortion discussions in politics, and flag burning, and on and on. All buzzwords for politics/elections.
In other words, if my neighbor wants to own an AK-47, MAKE him break a law to get it. Just like if a 10 year old wants a case of beer. Hey it happens, but why make it any easier?43-922-863 Shut up and play your guitar.

Excellent post.I was just on moorewatch.com. That site is as shitty as they come. All they do is bash the shit out of Michael Moore even though they can neither write, nor think for themselves. One gold mine of a post that I found was one arguing that Michael Moore is the only single individual to profit from the war. They claim that all others that have profited have been business. Well hello, that's the fucking problem asshole. I guess they are happy to see Haliburton and Lockheed make billions (of your tax dollars I might add) from sending the young and poor to die for reasons they won't live long enough to understand. So fucking what if he made some money, does it look like he gives a flying fuck. These are the type of people who would steal from their own mom if they could only figure out how to pull it off (sadly they can't because they are dumb as door knobs).
I think I am going to shed a tear on July 4th for all the intelligent people in the US who have to sit idly by while the rich and utterly retarded run the country into the ground because they can't even understand that they are quickly turning the place into a banana republic slowly slipping more and more into debt while China quietly accepts their position at the top of the pedestal as the new World Super Power. Actually, on second thought I will probably laugh instead because that is what everyone down there is going to be doing while lighting fireworks and having a grand old time...no cares in the world because today equals tomorrow (that's what dad told me anyways) progress is progress there is no turning back now.Comment

is that honestly supposed to be an insult?
you've probably never even met any of the people you are talking to and you want to start insulting people based on how much you think they may weigh. Next maybe you will start calling me too young to understand "how the world works". or maybe you will just dismiss me as a bleeding heart liberal or a tree hugger or whatever uneducated and unoriginal insults you have in your three card deck. If you want to make someone laugh or insult them then think of something funny or insulting to say and say it...no point in being half assed or holding back.

I think you hit on some good points. I think what we have is a partially failing capitalistic system and a partially socialized system. The people in the capitalistic system are those with private polices, employer provided policies and those without insurance. They people in the socialized system are those on Medicare/Medicaid and/or some other federal or state government provided insurance. The problem for those of us stuck in the private system is that our private system has become a monopolistic system where all of the key players are involved in a silent conspiracy to extract maximum profit from those of us suck in that system. In other words it simply isn’t a functioning free market anymore. Our current healthcare system isn't exactly privatized. Insurance companies rely heavily on government laws and regulations that allow them to exploit customers. From not allowing Americans to purchase overseas, having them dictate medical treatment, and allowing them huge tax breaks makes them less a story of capitalistic success and more about sucking the dicks of the right Senators to make their business easy.
On top of that, everyone who buys health insurance or pays their own medical bills is paying for socialized medicine. A true private healthcare system can turn away people, can deny healthcare. Our current system doesn't allow that, and the people who do pay their bills are the ones who pay for the poor. It's why Aspirin is $20, why a simple MRI is hundreds, and why just staying in a bed in a hospital for a night is over $10,000.
So we need to stop saying that our system is privatized. It's still socialized medicine with flaws. The difference is whether we pay for the poor in our taxes or through our health insurance. So I'm not saying that the government should run everything, but I'm saying that our current healthcare system is far from a private system that utilizes capitalism.Last edited by Kingfish; 06-28-2007, 11:00 AM.Comment

Whats wrong with owning an AK-47? I have one, does that make me a bad person? Shooting a gun is fun. It's a proven fact that if it rhymes, its legit. Seriously though, guns aren't the problem, it's the people that end up getting them. No matter how many gun laws get created, the wrong people are still going to get them, so why take them out of law abiding citizens hands?I think that when Bush let the assault weapons ban lapse, it was purely political. Yes, I have to agree with you. I had a migraine headache that lasted a few weeks, so I finally was sent to the hospital to get a CT scan.......$4500. I was at the hospital for 2 hours.pocketkangaroo, a simple MRI is hundreds? I wish
It's thousands. One sec I'll go find my bill...
First of all just to get to the emergency room and have a doctor check me out was $1514.
MRI scan was $2836.
And thats just face, neck and chest.. and I need another one of those damn things for another procedure.. blahComment

And it's obvious why. These subjects make people very emotional. Shit, I know they make verry fucking upset. How you can be living in a country like the US and bash the only person why actually has the guts to criticize the absolute worse problems your country has? And how do they criticize him? By calling a fat liar? WTF? To this day I have never heard anyone nail Moore on a straigh-out lie. Like someone mentioned earlier, when someone like Moore gets it opposers so worked up it's because you know he has hit a nerve. You know something is fucked up.Comment

At the end of the day everybody wants police, prisons, garbage men, libraries, parks, armies, the FDA, and a basic educated populace (thus mandatory and universal education). How much "more" or "less" Government is required will never satisfy anybody, except for individuals that love living 100% off the system or corporations and CEOs that are completely subsidized by government tax dollars to the tune of millions, or government officials that get paid big salaries yet don't even show up for "work".
I think Brad made the point earlier that both private and/or public healthcare could probably work equally well, but it all depends upon how it's managed.Comment

Maybe nothing is wrong with you owning whatever weapon you want to own. But the argument that the bad people will get them anyway so why have a law against it is weak. Speeders will go 100mph, so lift the speed limit. See? Doesnt make sense.Whats wrong with owning an AK-47? I have one, does that make me a bad person? Shooting a gun is fun. Well, I wouldn't go so far as to compare speeding with illegally purchasing firearms, but I do see your point. However, an outright ban isn't the answer either, just like the one that Bush allowed to expire. Have crimes increased since that ban expired? I doubt it. I'm not saying there shouldn't be any laws or even new laws, but the direction shouldn't be towards a ban.

this post says it all. Thread closed.Republicans are good at that. Edwards is gay, Moore is fat, Bill Clinton is gay, Dean is insane... anyone who loves their country enough to want to identify and fix it's faults is a traitor. Anyone who wants to preserve our individual civil liberties against this imperial presidency is 'unpatriotic'.
Baddog and other Republicans don't want a democracy, they want a monarchy. They need a 'daddy' in the oval office and they don't like hearing uncomfortable truths from what they consider snobby smartasses like Michael Moore.Comment

Because if they're on the market at all, the bad people are going to get them and they're going to use them. I'm all for responsible gun ownership, but nobody NEEDS an AK except the military. As far as having a 'well armed militia' goes, last time I checked the National Guard was alive and well.Whats wrong with owning an AK-47? I have one, does that make me a bad person? I think it will probably take time to get data to show any major ban or lifting of ban to show any kind of good data. I dunno. It just pissed me off honestly to watch cspan as the republican senators, and some democratic ones, cried about how letting 2 gay women or men marry would destroy western civilization.
Then senators Shumer and Clinton got up and used their time with charts and graphs and shit to talk about how the automatic assault weapons ban expired that same day, and how all this gay marriage talk just distracted the public.. which I felt was basically true. And it was all because there was a huge election coming up.
Politics just sucks sometimes. (ie: 100% of the time, lol)
They COULD have said you can buy an AK-47, but require them to be filled with cement, lol. But nobody even cared enough to set politics aside, thats the sad thing. Since it was simply expiring, there was no need for anyone to debate why it SHOULD expire, so they didnt make a peep.43-922-863 Shut up and play your guitar.

That's a pretty big jump don't you think? I'm all for responsible people owning firearms so that means I'm in favor of wiretaps and everything. As far as shipping prisoners outside of the country to be tortured, I'm not in favor of that. Torture has it's place in war and, unfortunately, it's a neccessary evil. If information is needed to save the lives a lots of people and the only way to get it is to poke some scumbag, I say poke him. He probably deserves it anyways.

Crazy that's pretty expensive. Here in Vancouver if you need an MRI you can get one for free through the public system or go to a private MRI clinic and pay $850.pocketkangaroo, a simple MRI is hundreds? I wish

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that it's possible to have a health care system fully funded publicly while also offering some services privately. Why do all the issues seem to gravitate to one option or another?Comment

I have friends and friends of friends who have been tortured during the dicatorships that were set up in South America (supported by the US). You fucking ignorant fuck.Comment

Really? That's pretty short sighted. I'm not saying I could do it, but torture has been used since the dawn of time to get timely information from people who don't want to give it up. Torture, while contreversial and offense, has changed the course of history. I can see you don't agree with it and you probably think that if everyone just stopped fighting there would be magical rainbows and fairys dancing around everywhere. Nice thought, but try and get somewhat of a grip on reality.

And it all depends on what side you are on. Your friends were tortured, but what if your friends are the ones depending on you getting information in a hurry. Are you going to just wait for your prisoner to talk and let your friends die? That's all I'm saying. Youre just onesided.

You would be upset too if you knew people who were tortured and made dissapear, their families never knowing where or how the died. I think you are the one with the small view. I hope to God that you are never tortured, and I hate your fucking guts.Comment

So you feel that attacking is the answer to people having an opinion different than yours? All I'm saying is that torture has been used, during war on prisoners of war, for longer than any of us have been alive and it worked. I'm not saying I condone it or participate in it, just that it has it's place. Not everything in the world can be nice, just has to work. I'm not simple minded or a hillbilly, I'm someone who can think rationally, not just emotionally.

Very well said. Some people are so terrified of the word socialism they can't even see what is staring them right in the face. Your medical system is fucked and private enterprise cant fix it. Why? because private enterprise isn't about protecting citizens, its all about making a buck. At least we get to vote for the government. If one lot fuck it up then you vote in another lot to take another shot at it. The right-wingers try to dredge up 'horror stories' about socialised medicine but the reality is, by and large, those in countries that have it, love it. Liberals and conservatives. Its rare you find something that almost everyone in a country agrees with. Socialised medicine is one of those things.
Why people trust private enterprise more than the government staggers me sometimes. You dont vote for the leaders of big business. The average person has no say in the affairs of the corporate world. But they have a vote. They can help change a government. No system is perfect but one of the purposes of government is to protect its citizens. Having healthcare available to all is the very basis of that, as well as equal opportunity. How can any country claim to have equal opportunity when an education and health care is not provided to ALL its citizens?
In short: They can't.
The only thing I differ on Moore about on this matter is the elimination of the private system altogether. I say offer universal care through the government and let the private system sort itself out for those that want to still pay and use it.XXXRewards - Karups - Boyfun - Jawked.
