To put things in perspective... I have a site that just sits there and does nothing.. my personal web space should i want to experiment with something.. just a placeholder there right now. No content, no anything.
I had the page set as my home in a browser with the toolbar installed, and made it my homepage in my profile on a couple forums (like gfy).
Within a month or two it was up to something like 300,000 alexa, and was getting max, 20 uniques a week. Kind of shows you how worthless Alexa is for gauging the worth of a site thats in the 100k+ bracket.
If you want a very high alexa rank, all you need is moderate traffic. Push the Alexa toolbar to your users.
My site is back down to about 4,000,000 though, havnt hit it with a toolbar installed browser for a long time.ICQ: 284903372Comment

BTW, quantcast.com has an amazing traffic analysis site. Alot like alexa, but with more useful information.
Only problem, they dont have anywhere near the amount of sites recorded as Alexa. They dont rely on a toolbar either, so you arent going to have the same kind of wild skewed variations that Alexa has.. (I'm sure they have their own data problems).
